I have a family friend who I had asked to create a custom emerald cut eternity ring for me. As you have probably experienced once in your life or so, when someone says 'you're getting a deal'...you can't help but wonder if you really are...

So, here are my specs for my ring...if you could shine some light on how much a ring like this would cost to make or be appraised for I would love to know:

My ring specs are as follows:
- 18k White Gold
- 25 emerald cut diamonds (.18 ct. per E/F color and VS1/VS2)

The diamonds are about 4mm tall, unsure about width and depth...

Thanks for your time!

So if I'm doing my math correct that ends up being a 4.5ct eternity band? In my experience from what I had read on line of other people "getting a deal from a family friend, relative" etc etc it is usually not much of a deal. You can typically buy something cheaper online for high quality. B&M stores have to charge more to cover their overhead expenses like the store, employees....

However with all that said it definitely happens. You didn't put the price you are paying so we really have nothing to compare it to. I know when I received my 4.75ct enterity band most stores in our area had lower quality diamonds in their quote to keep their prices really low. DH ended up purchasing online for a better price and better clarity/ better color etc. Did you shop around at all to price compare?

Get it appraised by a pro. Soon would be good. You've stated some details as 'fact' and have skipped over a whole bunch looking to get to a conclusion. Any answer that isn't incredibly vague would be doing you a disservice and an answer with enough room to cover the rantge of options would be useless. There's a list of appraisers at the top of the page under the 'resources' tab.
