Am I missing something? Why the price difference?

3218 - 2500 == 718

Boy that''s a tough one. I calculate a $800 difference. Some how you have to fgure out which has better light performance, but when I look at the idealscopes I don''t have enough experience to tell although maybe the GOG.

I'm not an expert, but I'm going to hazard a guess about the price difference (which I don't think is $1300--oh good, someone else did the math

). The first one (smaller stone) has a table on the small side (not too small, but at the small end of the ideal range), and is on the larger end of the scale for depth, so I'm thinking it's going to face up smaller than its carat weight.

No idea how much you'd be able to tell that looking at them in person, whether side by side or not, but that's my guess. I'm sure one of the experts will chime in soon and enlighten us both.

biggest difference is cut quality the GOG is a super-ideal the JA stone is ideal(ags says so) with partial painting on some of the facets and likely a few messed up hearts.
It is a rather large price jump even given that.
Last I looked gog had a much better upgrade policy and a few other differences in policy that make up for some of it.

From what I can tell, James Allen usually has the best prices. Then whiteflash, and then GOG (at least for H and A, thats what I look at). However, that is just from my experience looking. It might not always be like that.

WF and GOG are more picky about what they call h&a too and offer proof rather than opinion.

Alright, alright...So I can''t do math at 11:30 on a Saturday.

Good points but one clarification. We generally stock diamonds from .6xct and higher so the formulas for 1/2ct diamonds were not structured properly in our system. I''m changing that shortly. We bring them in for clients on a needs basis as I have access to hundreds and our greatest demand is for .6xct and higher. That diamond is actually $2871 (wire, only about a $300 difference). Strms points were right on however. There are a series of exams/photography/reports that take lots more time and investments to generate (which we also include in hard copy form as well) which we have an entire staff hired for. If I don''t have to use the employ of my staff we can pass that onto our clients and not provide the detailed appraisal reports that accompany our diamonds. Time =$$$. If you compare our services and the information we provide for the value we''re right in there. In fact if you wanted to acquire the information we provide up front on any other diamond you''d find the expense to be considerably more than what we charge.

Peace,

Thanks for checking in I figured that was the case as you are usualy more competitive than that.

Rhino/Jon,

Please don''t read my intentions wrong, I was not in any way saying that your prices were inflated, higher without reason, etc. I was trying to see if I was missing something between the two stones in terms of specs. As storm pointed out apparently I was, and more. GOG is be far my favorite site to meander for the reason that you have TONS of information on your stones. Actually I am quite overwhelmed sometimes and not sure what some of those numbers mean, but that would be my ignorance and not your fault. I/We appreciate the lengths you go to to provide this information and I would gladly pay a little more for this. (Not to mention JA vs GOG you have by far the better upgrade policy
