Am I insane?

I feel kind of insane even posting this, but here goes…

I was just browsing and I saw this stunning, gorgeous, really just unspeakably beautiful outfit that I want to wear for my wedding reception. I tried it on as a lark and I swear I almost cried. It fit me like a dream and even the sales lady seemed wowed by the way she spoke and looked. It was NOT cheap but it was about what I expected/am comfortable spending on a reception outfit (in India there’s little distinction between bridal and non-bridal, so it’s not like I set out to look for bridal clothing lol).

Here’s the crazy part: I’m not even engaged (yet). The earliest this reception can take place is a year from today, and more likely 1.5 years from today. The outfit will take 3-4 months to be ready. I know that the right, smart and sensible thing to do is to wait until I’m at least engaged before buying it; but at the same time - I know. I am convinced that I am 10000000% going to wear this.

Would it be truly insane to just buy it already and keep it in storage??

My vote (fwiw) is to get it. If your weight generally remains stable buy it. You love it and might never find anything as stunning in time for your reception. So I would get it. Don't regret it. Most of the things we regret are things we don't do not things we do. Hope that helps and good luck with the decision!

Thank you missy! My weight has been stable for a while so that’s another thing that is swaying me towards buying. It’s so silly but when I saw it on the hanger I thought “this is mine”. There was a bride there getting fitted for her dress (I don’t know her but I assume she was a bride) and she was like “I hope you get this. You look incredible.”

But I also think buying an outfit before a wedding is even on the cards is kind of insane. I haven’t told my SO, he’s a fairly chill guy who would be fine either way and wouldn’t stop me (I think) but I do know he’s going to think it’s crazy behaviour even if he doesn’t say anything to me lol.

You do make a great point about regrets. I ask myself “how would you feel if it was gone” but then I remind myself that it won’t really ever be gone since I could order it for myself instead of buying the one they have on the floor. But then, what if they’re slammed at the time and can’t take orders or they stop taking orders for this outfit?

Maybe I should call them and ask them to let me know when this is about to get discontinued, so I can order it before that point…

I am not sure they will know when it is going to be discontinued.
If you get it you can wear it for another occasion if the one you plan on wearing it for doesn't pan out...which it will but just saying to alleviate your fears. But of course you have to do what you feel is best. I would get it. But I am impulsive that way.

The only thing there is that it is an acceptable amount to spend on my own wedding, but way too expensive to buy to wear to someone else’s so I feel like I need to be 1000000000% sure.

I’m leaning this way. Or maybe even giving myself a couple of months. I actually literally called them right now while seeing all your messages and they confirmed that this will be available for ordering at least for the next few months (until June next year). So perhaps I will order it in April but ordering seems to be the foregone conclusion

I caved and told my SO and he laughed
and said I can go ahead and order it by June next year because if I don’t have a ring on my finger by then, it won’t be very long after so I think I’ll wait until April and then if I still feel the same way…. It’s mine!
