Im buying a diamond for $7,300. My girlfriend prefers quality to size. My budget is about $8k-$9k for the stone. Is this a good deal?

The jeweler likes this diamond because it appears bigger than it really is due to a large table. The inclusions seem very tough to see, even with a loop.

Post this in Rocky Talky and you will get heaps of good advice

I would pass on this stone due to the cut grade, and I would also be suspicious of a jeweller that likes a stone as it faces up larger for it's size - it means its not cut as well as it could be and light performance would likely be affected. I would be looking at other options.

Thank you for the feedback. You make a valid point.

Given the specs on this stone, is the price right?

The jeweler had other similar sized stones that were ex-ex-ex, but were a few bucks more. When he put them side by side I could barely tell the difference in quality and the subject stone does appear larger.

Is it worth spending an extra $1,000 to upgrade this to ex-ex-ex, VVS2,1.0ct?

not a well cut stone...flat top with no crown height... :knockout:

This diamond gets a 2.5 on the HCA tool here on PriceScope. It means its OK, but you'd have to look at it in person and I'd want a better price than what you're getting.
Just doing a quick search on the PS front page, I find multiple ideal cut, triple ex stones for up to five hundred less than this one.
How big a diamond looks is a function of its diameter, not its table.
There is nothing wrong with a truly eye clean SI stone, in my opinion, but if your girlfriend prefers quality you might want to look into VS.
Good luck!

Please realise that any stone you look at needs to be ideal cut to have good light performance. You can have a poorly cut D flawless that looks terrible next to an ideal cut G SI1.
Please let the experts here (not me) help you pick a good stone.
