Happy birthday! I'm glad you had a great day and that your father did call in the end. Personally I don't put too much store by birthday phone calls as I have a terrible memory for dates and forget everyone else's, so if I don't get a call from a loved one, I give them the benefit of the doubt

I go by someone's general behaviour towards me as a measure of how much they care about me (or not).

Perhaps I''m being weird here, but in my family we don''t call on birthdays after childhood. Honestly, the way my parents look at it all you did was not die for another year

I guess because of the way I was raised, I think birthdays should be acknowledged when you are a child, a teenager, perhaps during college. After that no, I wouldn''t expect everyone to be calling you. Just my $0.02

In our family nobody ever forgets a birthday. My sister won''t let them. She emails first a month in advance and then gives everyone a weekly reminder. I am 53 and want her to forget mine, but she doesn''t listen to me.
