Seriously?!?!?!?! Well what did you say exactly? Not like I should be giving advise as apparently something I posted the other day ruffled a few feathers (still scratching my head over it), but anyhow I feel if you ask for opinions then you open yourself up for possible critism. If you can't handle it then don't post or don't ask for opinions.

And on that note- I guess we will be seeing you more!

Well, it depends.

For me, when i ask for opinion i would prefer it if
1) it was in a constructive manner ;
2) no foul language used
3) is not patronising
4) is not abusive
5) it wasn't rude
6) it was courteous

However, I agree with Sarahbear- if i asked for an opinion, I should be able to take criticism in any way, shape or form. I will take a hit but it may take a while for me to recover. :errrr:

 DF, come on-most of your threads here are trolling. You know this!

An internet forum is a strange and mysterious social petri dish.
Each has their rules, but rules are open to interpretation by members and mods.
What one poster sees as 'honest and asked for' another sees as 'rude and uncalled for'.
People vary. Dang it. :angryfire:

Generally what you end up with is a culture in which moderators get bothered the least.
This happens not when rules are followed, but when rules are interpreted to the standards and satisfaction of the most sensitive and whiny members.
That means if you have enough 'sensitive' posters the forum's culture will sink to the lowest common denominator of interpretation of the rules.

Also it's not just what you say in one thread.
It's how much people like/dislike you based on all your posts over years.
I'm guessing with that watch you're sporting there are a few jealous members.

Maybe timezone needs a private Facebook group so they can gossip, vent, and whine unmoderated about the timezone posters.
I remember hostility towards me here went way down after the private PS FB group opened.
(I was a member briefly, but left because I didn't like vendors posting 'soft ads' in the 'threads'.)

I'm no expert, but wouldn't the bolded part, if true, make it hugely valuable??

In answer to the question, if your honest opinion is presented in a way highly likely to cause offence, and the poster knows that perfectly well , or if s/he calculated how best to offend while presenting their opinion, then possibly yes. Especially if that person does much the same thing over and over and over again. As Kenny pointed out, people do judge your posts by what they've seen from you before, but I think that's much the same as people in real life deciding how they feel about you by what you do and say. It's a tricky one though, because one person's dedicated poster devoted to educating others is another person's tedious troll, and vice versa.

DF, I wouldn't have been so bold as to phrase it like that in a forum from which I did not want to be banned... but goodness! I wouldn't pay $100 for that watch either!

Oh my goodness, I just clicked on the link. It really IS made from rust from the Titanic. I have no words...Is this a normal thing? Do people feel ok with that, given the Titanic is essentially a mass grave? Or am I out of step? (Not trying to offend anyone, just genuinely stunned by this, not having seen anything like it before.)

DF, I think, having seen the object in question, you were quite polite. :o

I will not post my shtick. I will not post my shtick. I will not post my shtick.

Glad I'm not the only person who finds that to be in questionable taste. People vary, I know.

Moondust, though. That could be cool! At least no one died there, right?

Enjoy your lunch!

Oh, I always want to give my opinion.... if people actually ask, they should not mind it when others actually do give their opinions!!

It is all in the delivery.

I would never answer on PS "Yuck! That is a disgusting stone that would poison the fishies" in response to someone's stone. However, "I can see brown in the stone and the surface reaching fracture worries me - it may grow and become a problem. Overall, I believe you overpaid. Does the vendor accept returns?" makes my opinion quite clear without being aggressive.
