Hello all.....I''ve done lots of lurking on this site and think its fabulous! I''m itching to ask my first question, so here goes.....
Before reading tonnes of helpful info on this site, I was pretty set on wanting both a e-ring and w-band with pave on the band (either 1/2 or 3/4 way around). As for the "rock", I want a round, brilliant stone. However, after reading up on pave settings, the "take home" messages I''ve read over and over are:
-Pave/micropave is risky in that if it is not done well, stones can fall out. However, some people have no problems whatsoever with their pave rings.
-If choosing the pave style, the stones would be more secure in a prong or shared prong setting, rather than the melee being "bead" set.
-Getting both the e-ring and w-band with three sided pave is NOT a good idea (especially if you''re hard on your rings/frequent wearer) as the bands will rub together. This could: knock out a stone, or weaken the metal.
So.....not being one who''d like to gamble on stones falling out, I''m interested in coming up with other options instead of my original desire for both the e-ring and w-band to be three sided pave.
What are my options???
I''m thinking:
1) Only get one of the bands as pave and keep the other one a solid metal.
-In this case, would a metal band rubbing against a three sided pave still be a bad thing?
-What do most PS''ers like best: pave on e-ring with plain w-band or vice versa. (I guess its putting all "eggs" i.e. bling in one basket if the
e-ring is the pave band and the w-band is plain. Would it look better with e-ring as solitaire and then have the w-band carry the bling in the
band? Opinions?
2) Opt for the two bands only to have a single row of pave on the top so that the "sides" of the band are metal.
-But wouldn''t this be so much less sparkle?!?
-The rings would just look like flat metal from the side, not sure I like this as much as seeing the pave from the side
-And still, I''d chance losing a stone from the single side of pave.
3) Opt for a different setting for the band where the stones are held in more securely i.e. with prongs or shared prongs
-With this option, I''m thinking the bands will sparkle and shine less as there will be more metal than stone.
-Is there a way to opt for the security of the prongs but not have it look so metal-ey? Smaller prongs? Please post pics if you have something
along these lines.
4) I really like the roundness of the three sided pave bands. How can I keep this rounded band look (I''m thinking along the lines of the Michael B, Leon
Mege styles) if I opt for prong set melee instead of pave? I don''t want it to look square-ish or be uncomfortable. I also don''t like the "fishtail"
style.
Hopefully I''ve done enough reading so that I''ve posted questions that make sense
Any/all opinions appreciated!
