Alternative use for a CE diamond or just sell it?

When I proposed to my wife 9 years ago I was on a budget and purchased a clarity enhanced diamond. I'm at the point where I'd like to get her something nicer but I'm not entirely sure what to do with this diamond. It's princess cut, VS1 and comes in at 1.06 carats. Where is the best outlet to sell this diamond? It came with an appraisal/cert for just over $10k (setting included) but considering I paid roughly $2200 at the time I know the appraisal is worth nothing. Also, the VS1 may not be entirely correct due to it not being GIA certified however it is a great looking stone so an SI1 rating wouldn't surprise me. Off of the top of my head I don't remember the color or cut grading.

I'd also be open to keeping the stone and using it for another application, but I'm not sure what I could use it for. I don't want to invest in a match so studs are out of the question, perhaps a necklace might be a good option?

Thanks in advance.

Hi OP, I think it will be difficult to sell but it sounds like you are realistic about pricing and certs so try if you want, maybe I do now I don't (website to sell engagement rings and other jewelry). Other vendors who sell non-CE diamonds may shy away from a CE stone, so I think selling on your own is the only option. You may try to contact a vendor that exclusively sells CE diamonds.

I'd opt to make a pendant (something simple like a solitaire or include colored stones that relate to birth stones of your family/kids). I also love a masculine pinky ring for you if you'd wear it. Good luck and enjoy whatever you decide.

Do you know what type of clarity enhancement was done - drilling & bleaching (permanent) or filling? GIA will grade drilled stones, but not fracture filled stones.

Selling diamonds as consumers on the secondary market is a losing proposition under the best of circumstances, and with the best of specimens... honestly, you'll get so little for a CE stone that I wouldn't even consider it. I like luv's idea - the original stone would make a wonderful pendant, and it's a lovely way to showcase a sentimental stone ::)

Another vote for a pendant! I think it would be lovely, and a good way to use such a sentimental stone. As others have said, I don't think you could get much for the diamond and it probably wouldn't be worth the hassle of trying.

HI:

Pendant for sure!

cheers--Sharon

Thanks for the replies. Out of the ideas so far I think a pendant may be a good use for the stone. A pinky ring for myself would be nice too, but I'm a watch guy and the only other jewelry I wear is my wedding band.

I'm still open to suggestions so please let me know if you have one. THANKS!

i think you should keep it. you prob won't get good value for it and it still has sentimental values :)

i think a bezel pendent or a bangle (like the ones Grace has at JbG) would look lovely.

I'm thinking something like this might be a great use for it → http://www.ebay.com/itm/FLAWLESS-2-CT-14-KT-WHITE-GOLD-PRINCESS-CUT-NECKLACE-WEDDING-PENDANT-GENUINE-VS1-/331411723267?pt=US_Fine_Necklaces_Pendants&hash=item4d29ad9403

I imagine that I could have that made for a very reasonable price. If I wanted to put a little more time and money into it, I found some other styles that have a "halo" around the diamond. Maybe that would be worth look into, using a colored stone like sapphire might be a nice touch as well (although I'd prefer to have as much light as possible make its way to the diamond).

So many options and this slope is starting to become a little slippery...

not sure how much you want to invest in repurposing this CE diamond since your main focus should be on the brand new engagement ring.

here are some ring holder necklaces that look really cute. it's meant for women that can't wear their engagement ring on their hands all day due to the nature of their jobs. but this could be a quick and easy way of turning your wife's old ring into a necklace without spending a fortune.

What a pretty ring holder. It works as a necklace just by itself.

I would also go the route of a necklace, maybe a stationary bezel necklace.

It will make an amazing pendant
