Altering cut - before/after pics?

I see fewer marquise diamonds out there than any other cut and have never considered one for myself... until a particular one came to my attention. It''s a huuuuge J SI2. "The flaws are around the bowtie and are hardly noticable", according to the seller. Well, yeah... maybe.

The wole thing just got me curious about changing the shape of a stone.

This is the approximate size (about 5.30 ct!)

This is the softer marquise shape I like better (shown in 3.38ct).

ETA this ring was auctioned as a marquise, although I would have thought it an oval.

Actually, I have to say that I love the first one as is - it''s a really cool marquise in a stunning setting. That is actually an exact replica of my mom''s engagement ring, except hers is about 2 carats. I think the baguettes give it a really classy look.

I just never thought of myself wearing a marquise. Then suddenly it seemed so glamorous...

Truthfully, my imagination is running away with me. My eyes are greedy, but my heart isn''t. I''m very appreciative of the thread showing smaller stones (under 1.00 ct) in absolutely beautiful rings. I think I''ll have plenty of time to sort this ring thing out and the big marquise will probably be long gone. We''re not seriously looking right now - I''m just trying to learn more.

I''ve never been much of a marquise fan, but the second pic is really appealing. It has the elegant look of an elongated stone without the dangerous pointy ends! It think it would be be-yoo-tiful if it was reshaped!

And your pups are gorgeous! I''ve never heard of long haired chihuahuas. How big do they get?

I like the nonpointy-ness of it, too. I just know nothing about the recutting potential of diamonds. I''m sure there are many factors to take into consideration.

Long coated chis are the same size as smooth coated chis - pretty teensy! These aren''t micro-teacup-pocket dogs... just regular 4-5 lb chihuahuas. Google images has lots of cute pics.

Non pointy is a great way to describe it. It isn't harsh or abrupt just smooth and most appealing. I have a friend who inherited a 4+ carat canary diamond. She thinks it is just TOO much to wear. I hope to forward your beauty you posted for an idea on her dilemma. Her only option was an east to west mounting...but if she had it reshaped it would be most wearable. I do hope an expert chimes in to help you!!

Oh my my my that pup is too adorable. That newborn pic is priceless. It looks to me like an Ann Geddes shot. You know how she takes human infants and has them in the palm of a hand? Then the last shot with the sibling awhhh. That is just too much! Please post pictures when you get that darling home. Have you decided on a name yet? I am so thrilled for you!!

Okay... I can't find anything like a "soft" marquise diamond anywhere on the net. I think listing that second ring as having a marquise brilliant must have been a typo and pretty major typo, at that. I gather it's an ultramegasuperspecial stone...

Nope..., Its a gorgeous Old-Cut Marquise..., It must be accompanied by a Gubelin report from Switzerland that states in an apendix that the Diamond is identified as Golconda...

If it does..., you have got a rare find in your hands Ninama..., Make sure its accompanied with a Gubelin report!!!

I stumbled upon it while looking for large marquise rings because I found a 5.00 ct S12 J monster of dubious origin at scary low price ($6500). I was more curious about recutting into the shape of the Golconda. The Golconda ring is listed at close to $155,000...


Thank you so much for the Old-Cut Marquise cut info, though - I may have found a new favorite shape!

I''ve seen a kind of modified marquisey stone called a "lozenge" cut?? It was an antique and I *think* even a Tiffany stone?? I''ll see if I can find a pix.
