I feel like if Venice and Poppy snuggled up for a one night stand, this 2.75 would be the product of their union!

To my own eyes, Venice appears more ivory from the top than Poppy, and this 2.75 looks whiter than Poppy (though I don't know how the black background on the video compares to the white background of my video). And Venice's outline is more pillowy, while Poppy is a bit more uniform - this one splits the difference. The faceting on all of them look very similar, but just different enough for them to not appear 'cookie cutter.'

If you like Poppy and/or Venice, I do think you'll be very happy with this stone. I think it's beautiful. :))

Here are the other two videos, for the sake of comparison: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=026BGO6tGTw (Poppy) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usAuLfEcY2M (Venice)

Woaaaa wait a minute! A 1 night stand...what are you saying about Venice here :halo: :o

I pretty much agree with this. Meg when I emailed you about the color of Venice I said I love her coloring 90% of the time. The other 10% it is just a little too yellow for my taste and the video that Ginger posted of my completed ring shows that tinted color strongly. But once again 90% of the time it is not that tinted to my eyes. Is is more antique lace color then ivory if that makes sense. I also think if you set your beauty in RG the color will be less noticable then it is with PLAT or WG.

I'm so excitied for you. Please email me and let me know what you think when you get it!

Hey, when the sangria starts flowing, you just can't hold these diamonds to high standards! They're so attractive, things are bound to happen!

I very much agree re: rose gold. A bit of antique lace and rose gold would look phenomenal together.

Well, the 2.75 is here, and its gorgeous! The difference between this stone and the 2.28 I initially had is unbelievable. This one just glows! It's gray and overcast here today, and this stone is bright and happy looking.

To my eyes, it's a lot less "yellow" than the photo shows. In real life, it's almost a dead match to the G stones in my eternity band from a top down perspective. But, it's reflecting back all the gorgeous colors around me! I'm wearing a pink shirt, which you can see it so clearly in the bursts of light coming off this baby.

From the side, it's all creamy butter.

I love it. And I promise to pull out the big camera and take some decent pictures this week.

What do you ladies recommend as far as certifications? Is an IA enough? Or should I ship it off to GIA for a proper cert? Adam is setting the stone for me, so it does have to go back to NY - and I think I read that both GIA and David Atlas are in the same building?

I'd also LOVE some ideas for settings. I was thinking the classic Boston Jeff style in rose gold, but then I feel bad for pretty much knocking off a ring a few PSers have. Any other really simple, classic solitaires out there that I should consider?

:appl: :appl: :appl: Yay!!! It looks beautiful!!! Yes, more/better pictures are a must! I'm so glad you're happy with it!

OH.MY.GOSH
I'm so glad you went with this one its its like night and day! Get that baby set!!so worth a temp setting for the time being to get that lovely

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

Thank you for citing my ring nielseel! Meg, I was also looking to have the Boston Jeff made in rose gold but I ended up choosing a slightly different solitaire design of Leon's called the Princessa. I love my ring even more today than I did when I first got it, I didn't think that was possible! As for 'ripping off' others' rings, I for one would be incredibly flattered, and in the end it's not really a copy of anyone else's ring- the center stone is uniquely yours, as is your setting journey! Can't wait to see what you do with it, it is a *gorgeous* diamond!!

Edited for my autocorrect errors

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

Awesome stone...just goes to show that if you are uncertain about a stone then it is probably not the one...glad you waited for something better.

Excited for you to see it set.

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

Thanks ladies!

Any thoughts about appraisals or certifications? Does it matter at all?

ksmom - LOVE your ring.

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

Oh!!!! It is GORGEOUS! I love the shape it is fab and the color. Lovely stone! If it were me, I'd want to get it appraised before it is set by an independent appraiser for insurance purposes at a minimum (there's a fee but it is totally worth it and necessary I think). Whether you want to get it GIA certified is really up to you (and an additional fee + time too). A lot of old stones aren't GIA certified - mine isn't and I don't mind but I do have it appraised every couple years for insurance.

Can't wait to see how you set it!

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

It looks gorgeous. I would send it to GIA. A stone of that size and value I want a lab report for insurance and also to make absolutely certain I am paying fair retail.

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

For me, no question I would send it to GIA. I know they say about a week turnaround on their website but the last time I sent it in .. took a whole month!! If you don't want to wait, I would consider sending it to EGL-USA.

The stone looks beautiful!

Wow! That seems like an incredibly long time!

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

Alright, a few more pictures before I pack this baby up and send her off to GIA for evaluation. Of course, my camera is huge and black, so you can see it reflecting back. :)

On white paper, with natural light reflecting through, there is quite a bit of warmth through the pavilion

But on my hand, it's so incredibly bright and white!

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

Love it. Someone I swear someone said a good way to avoid camera reflection is to take a price of paper and just cut a lens hole into it and stick it on the front of your camera. Might be worth a try if you have some pink paper lying around

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

Amazing!! I love everything about it.

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

Yay! My diamond is back from GIA and is officially an Old Mine Brilliant, O/P color, VS1.

Is it weird that I'm tempted to send it to EGL too just to see the difference?

Oh wow a vs1 that's nice. And I love how you originally wanted to stay above a k. Funny how things work .

No don't send it off for more tests that baby wants to be set!!

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

Do it .. send it to EGL. For me, EGL is under $100 so I love to see the comparisons.

GIA gave it O/P versus just O or P? How long did they take? Were you at the NYC location?

Yes, the cert says "O to P Range"

It was really fast. Adam at OWD sent it to the NYC location last Wednesday and they got it back today.

N - I know, right? I never would have considered a stone this warm pre-pricescope!

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

I saw your diamond today and it is a beauty!!! I love the shape and facet pattern.

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

Amazing what a little cut and "color" education can do for you. I've never seen an O/P in person but the beauty of a well cut diamond has nothing to do with the color. Hard lesson to wrap ones mind around though. The GOG videos sure help and the testimonies from other PSrs. The highest color i've seen in person is and GIA L MRB, and it looked white to me.

I love the faceting of your stone. It is beautiful and looks well cut.

thanks for sharing more pics.

You did!? That's fun.

Ariel - I know, I never would have thought I'd fall this hard for such a warm stone. I just love it.

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

Oh is Adam setting it!!!!! I can't wait to see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GIA is in the same bldg as OWD so Adam probably just walked it right up to them

More antique cushion bling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ohhhhh I can't wait!!! Obviously I'm slightly, just ever so, biased

No, I wish he was, it would have made the final product so much closer to my hot little hands. Sadly, his bench was ridiculously pricey for a simple solitaire. Almost double what he initially thought/told me. I'm trying to figure out if I should go for the Ritani Neilseel posted in my other thread, or if I should raid the bank accounts and go for the VC setting I really want.
