These stones were set aside for me but I guess someone else expressed enough intrest in one of them. I have to decide to buy that specific stone today, or I won't get it.... I think I have 2 favorites from the bunch, but I'm interested to see what you experts think!

Here are my options:

2.18 ct
EGL J - I'm told this stone faces up very white and has tons of performance.
SI1 (Eye Clean)
7.97 x 7.54

meg.jpg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WblP6_qmeaM&feature=em-share_video_user

Pros:
Seems to have great life in the video
Cheap

Cons:
Not sure I love the facets in the still picture. There is a crazy amount of kozibe.

2.19 ct
GIA J (Although, I'm told it faces up like an I)
VVS2
8.09 x 7.05

2_19jvs2.jpg
aset49510.jpg

Pros:
Lowest color
Great proportions
possibly my favorite faceting scrtucture of the three

Cons:
Expensive because of color
smallest spread

2.75 ct
Un-certed. - Comments were that it's top down silver (Like Ginger's Poppy) and an ivory color from the bottom.
No specs. But, in the photo, it's next to the 2.18 mentioned above - so that gives you an idea of the spread.)

meg.jpg

Pros:
Huge
Great Facets
Lovely color

Cons:
I'd need to have it either appraised or certed.
Pricey - the very tip top of my budget, so it means the setting will have to be cheaper.

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

I like the GIA J best, partly because of the color and because it looks to be the best cut. The only downside to me is that it is more elongated than I usually like, but the setting would make a difference. The 2.75 stone is probably a really low color since the one next to it is probably like a GIA L. Do you care about color at all?

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

The first and third one appear to be true old cuts and the middle a newly cut. The appearance and personality will be very different.

Do you have a preference between the two? I've never seen a newly cut antique style stone in person.....

I don;t think I'm particularly color sensitive. My last stone had a top down tint I didn't really like, but I've been assured that stones 1 &3 don't have a similar hue.

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

If it were ME, I'd send the 2.75 to GIA and GET IT!!!! If DDS has ever happened to you before, then you know how fast it sets in. It looks great and very clean. Up to you, but that's my opinion  and PS - don't get swayed by what everyone else thinks because this is YOURS and you will have to wear it and live with it, not them. Good luck! You have some great options!

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

Im no cushion expert but what i know about you i think you would be happiest with the largest one. I know you had originally wanted a 3 ct, that plus the fact your old stone faced up large, i think you would be happiest with the largest facing stone closest to 3ct. Also if you found out you arent color sensitive thats great!
Plus i just like how it looks

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

Go for the 2.75 since you say "Great facets and lovely color" Also I like the shape.

Pros:
Huge
Great Facets
Lovely color

What are the measurements of the 2.75?
You can always buy your dream setting later.

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

I actually love the 2.18. I love the shape and the kozibe. In real life the kozibe makes a stone look like a mini discoball I think.

But if it were me in your shoes, and I could afford it, I'd get the 2.75. For a few reasons. It is a lot bigger in the photo and you'll probably just want a bigger stone at some point later anyway (we all do right?!). Also, it is a better clarity and that is a big one for me.

Get a simple solitaire setting now and save up for your dream setting later.

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

Well, my indecision made the decision for me. I let go of the 2nd diamond. (GIA J)

I hate feeling pressured.

Ariel - no idea on the measurements yet. Adam just got the stone in today.

I need a little bit more info on the 2.75, but it seems promising!

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

Ok, an update on the 2.75

Here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwIJaLCU00g&feature=em-share_video_user

8.37 x 8.8 x 5.48
Depth 63%
Estimating O/P color (top down silver)
VS1

What do you guys think? Worth having it mailed out? I'm hesitant because the depth is still on the shallow side. But adam keeps referring to this stone as Ginger's stone's younger sister, and I think Poppy is breathtaking.

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

Absolutely! Wow, it faces up really white!

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

FWIW, I like it better than your current one.

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

Absolutely id bring it home to see a little bit further. Thats a nice size going to be lovely in a solitaire (assuming you hold off for the.halo a few years)

Double claw solitaire anyone :naughty:

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

04diamond<3 - I know! I wonder how true the video is?

JulieN - I agree. I actually sent the 2.28 stone back to OWD

nielseel - I'm sensing inside humor that I'm too new to get. ;)

I dunno, they all three look so symmetric in their cutting and outline. I think there is no way to tell for sure. But I agree the second one looks the most like one of the newer cut antique styles.

The faceting on the largest also is so similar to justginger's stone and sarahbears! If you like their diamonds I suspect you will like that big one too. ETA: It looks nice in the video, crisp faceting. It is really surprising to me how similar it looks to Ginger and Sarah's stones! It's so unusual in antiques to find such similar cuts. But it looks nice to me if you are ok with the color.

I am unsure about the 2.18 without more pics or other information. In the video the under-table faceting doesn't look very crisp to my eye.

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

I really like the faceting and the shape. "silver" to me means that the tint is more gray than yellow which is a big plus IMO. The right color of tint certainly does affect the way a diamond shows "color". brown and gray tint is much more appealing to me than yellow. I would definitely want to see it in person.

No inside joke, im just an idiot. Wasnt this the one that would put a halo setting out of budget? Im just saying a nice (Rose gold??) Double claw prong solitaire would be absolutely beautiful as a "temporary" setting

Ha. Sorry. I think it's because on my phone, your smilie showed up as "* naughty *". I just assumed there was a hidden meaning.

A RG is exactly what I'm thinking as a temp setting if this stone ends up being the one!

I personally really like the 2.75ct but that is becasue the pillow-y shape and facet pattern appeals the most to me :D

Dreamer- Adam told me that this shape is his favorite with old cuts so he tends to purchase them the most when he sees them. I think it would be really fun to put Gingers, mine and the 2.75ct together though for a family picture.

I agree, thank you Dreamer! I have Poppy and Venice's threads open next to this one and they do all have a strong family resemblance. I loved BOTH those stones, so I think I'll take a chance on this one.

Worst case, I don't like it and I have to drive 10 minutes to the FedEx store to send it back.

Thank you all for your thoughts and advice!

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

I feel like if Venice and Poppy snuggled up for a one night stand, this 2.75 would be the product of their union!

To my own eyes, Venice appears more ivory from the top than Poppy, and this 2.75 looks whiter than Poppy (though I don't know how the black background on the video compares to the white background of my video). And Venice's outline is more pillowy, while Poppy is a bit more uniform - this one splits the difference. The faceting on all of them look very similar, but just different enough for them to not appear 'cookie cutter.'

If you like Poppy and/or Venice, I do think you'll be very happy with this stone. I think it's beautiful. :))

Here are the other two videos, for the sake of comparison: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=026BGO6tGTw (Poppy) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usAuLfEcY2M (Venice)

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

Ha! Thanks Ginger. If I end up getting her, you and Sarah can name her. ;)

I'm very interested to see how much color the diamond shows. I would imagine background color makes a big difference in the videos.

Ariel, I agree about tone. I love the new JA site and browsing all the different diamond "shades". I want one of the ones with pinkish tones.

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

Wow the 2.75 is the best imo.

Re: Alright cushion experts - I have to make a decision toda

I like the 2.75 as well! I hope you love it when you get it. Take lots of pics!!

Woaaaa wait a minute! A 1 night stand...what are you saying about Venice here :halo: :o

I pretty much agree with this. Meg when I emailed you about the color of Venice I said I love her coloring 90% of the time. The other 10% it is just a little too yellow for my taste and the video that Ginger posted of my completed ring shows that tinted color strongly. But once again 90% of the time it is not that tinted to my eyes. Is is more antique lace color then ivory if that makes sense. I also think if you set your beauty in RG the color will be less noticable then it is with PLAT or WG.

I'm so excitied for you. Please email me and let me know what you think when you get it!
