Almost ready to make my final decision...Please help!

I had an appointment at ERD recently and I must say it was very pleasant and in no way were they pushy. We looked at three diamonds and I must say it was hard deciding which one to choose. After the meeting I was leaning towards a VS2 E colored diamond for $4,500. Once I got home I input the cut proportions in the HCA and it came back as a 3.9. I am so confused and do not understand how that could be possible. Now I am thinking that I will look at other diamonds, but the other part of me thinks that if I was happy with the performance in person then that should be enough. The specs are below please advise whether or not you think I should keep on looking. I just want to make sure that I do not end up regretting my selection. Thanks!

Well, one factor is that you didn't see the stone in all kinds of lighting (or did you?). Everything looks good in jewelry store lighting. I think the angles aren't as good as they could be. The other thing that would bother me about the stone you posted is that it is deep which will likely mean it faces up smaller than it should. Can you give the diameter measurements?

The pavilion is slightly steep which may have some light leakage. But if you have seen it in person and love it, and the price is right then that is all that matters right?. Did you see it in different lighting condition as well?

the measurements are as follows: 6.18x6.20x3.87

I looked at the diamond at the window there was some sparkle but not as much as under their lighting, but I just attributed that to it being a bit cloudy. I was planning on going back anyway to look at more settings so now I think I will be if I can get something with better cut proportions. What do you think now that I provided the above measurements?

Oh...D&T quality is what is most important to me. Part of me does say if I am happy with it then go for it but the whole reason that I did not go for size is because I wanted to get a quality stone. So seeing that the cut proportions could be better makes me feel that I should at least look at other stones to see if is something I may be interested in. I am a little leary anyway as these three are the only stones we looked at...I have always had issues with jumping on the first thing I see.

the proportions seems fine to me.

have a look at a few more, Do you think you can go down to F or G color? that may open up more options as well.

The diameter is actually okay. If you saw the stone and really liked it, then that is what counts the most. Can you get a better cut stone? Yes, but it may cost a little more. I think it all depends on whether you think you''d later be sorry you didn''t go for a more ideal cut stone. Does ERD allow full value for trade-ins? That helps in cases of later changing the mind!

Diamondseeker you hit it on the head...I am afraid I will have buyers remorse. I will ask whether they have full value trade ins...but I will look at more stones too.

look at a few more stones and then compare the newest one to this one, and see if it "still" feels right.

Here is a diamond, its from ERD, so see if they can show you this (hopefully they have in house) but its a G, however see how it performs next to your first choice

keep looking--way TOO DEEP. ERD is not the place for optimally cut rounds. fancies are more their thing. Why ERD? Please take a look at excel, whiteflash or JA

I have also worked with ERD and found them easy to work with. They do allow full value trade-ins but you are required to upgrade by 40%.

You can find a diamond from the virtual inventory based on the suggested parameters. Mark can call it in for you and you can compare yourself in person. They do have great prices.

Its what we call a steep deep Mom, these don''t score well on the HCA because they normally leak light ( which you don''t want). I would ask Mark if he can find you something scoring between 1 and 2 on the HCA, that should narrow it down a bit.

Keep us posted and if you need any more help just ask. Also you can go a bit below 1 on the HCA, it is just these are often shallower cut diamonds which can have issues when used in ring stones, so if one comes along which scores a little below 1 it might be worth looking at.

Seriously, if you want an ideal cut round, the easiest thing to do is look at the inventories of Good Old Gold, WhiteFlash, and Brian Gavin Diamonds. They all specialize in ideal cut stones and all you have to do is check their inventories and have them send you a stone!
