All cushions I'm seeing have that "crushed ice" look

I'm going to some pretty respected wholesale jewelers to check out some cushion cut diamonds, but pretty much all of what I'm seeing are cushions with that crushed ice look. Do practically all cushion modified brilliants have this look? I don't think I've seen 1 stone that ISN'T a cushion modified brilliant. I've been to about 5 or 6 places in the past week, so I haven't been shopping for long. It's hard enough find cushions themselves than to get 1 that's not a cushion modified brilliant.

Basically I want to know if practically all cushion modified brilliants have this look (I know not ALL do, but do the vast majority?) and also how rare are cushions that aren't modified brilliant?

Thanks!!!

lol, ok cool.

i do know that different types of cushions exist. but maybe at my price point they don't? looking for something above 1 carat , above si1, above g at a max of about 7500$.

even looking on blue nile for instance, all the GIA reports say cushion modified brilliant!

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/6257/.. Here is an AVC that certainly won't have crushed ice Bank wire price is 7,200 and GOG is wonderful !! Johnathon is a dream to work with! You could contact him, he is always getting newly cut stones.

yes, the non-crushed ice variety are harder to find. do you want a modern cushion or vintage cushion?

I second Good Old Gold. They have the best well-cut cushion selection hands down.

You know, I saw some nice ones on GOG, but I'm so skeptical of buying something without seeing it. Plus I'm from Canada so I don't know if that would complicate things.

Considering what a huge purchase this is, I think it would be worth it to pay to ship a couple of stones from GOG for you to look at in person. Worst case, you're out the shipping costs.

I'd also assume there would be taxes, brokerage and duty on something like this as well. But I may enquire.

I don't really know the difference between the 2. GOG's august vintage look nice, but I haven't really studied any modern vintages...

I greatly prefer the ERD A cut beyond to the GOG AVC's personally. They are a little less chunky and a little more modern and therefore manage to avoid, on most of them, the strong maltese cross under the table. Also, they don't have the same high markup that GOG's AVC's have.

Win/Win. Plus Mark is a fabulous vendor who bends over backwards for his customers, and also ships internationally.

Here's one: http://www.engagementringsdirect.com/this-cut-beyond-cushion-brilliant-has-been-sold.-gid-67559.html lovely too bad it's sold. Ask Mark when he's getting his next batch like this in.

http://www.engagementringsdirect.com/0.93-carat-g-vvs2-a-cut-beyond-cushion-cut-diamond-gid-15231.html Hello beauty! Exact same size (in mm, otherwise known as 'spread') as that AVC posted. No maltese cross. G VVS stone for SIX THOUSAND! This would be my choice if I wanted a gorgeous cushion around a carat.

Here's a beautiful and I mean BEAUTIFUL modern cushion that does NOT have the crushed ice look: http://www.engagementringsdirect.com/modern-x-factor-cushion-gid-81976.html 1.24 carat G VS2

I will definitely look into that. Thanks!

In my opinion, almost "Cushion Modified Brillants" will have the crushed ice look. There are some with fat 8 mains cushion modified brillants that aren't as crushed iced looking. I would stick to Cushion Brillants.
