Hi Everyone,

I've lurked here for awhile as I saved up money for a ring and am finally ready to make my purchase.

I am about to finalize purchase on a diamond, but wanted to check one thing with you guys first. The diamond looks good using most indicators I could find here, but the table seems unusually small for the crown angle. What do you guys think?

Stats:
AGS certification
Cut grade: 0/0/0
HCA: 0.8
Depth: 60.9%
Table: 53%
Crown angle: 33.8
Pavilion: 40.7

Thanks!

I personally don't really like 53 or 54 tables. I prefer 56-58. Do you have any pictures of the stone?

Do you have pictures? Will you see it in person? Can you compare it to diamonds with larger tables that are also AGS0?

I think the simplest answer is that mist likely this diamond is fine! AGS0 are very strict.

How picky are you ;)) For most people, AGS0 is all you need to know. THe difference between a 57% and 53% table is very subtle. When you know diamonds very well and enjoy macro photography of your diamonds, then you might develop a preference for those type of details. But for most people, those nuances are lost. So its really up to you whether you want to focus on and learn about those smaller details.

AGS0 certainly is a good thing! It is strange because I was trying to look up a picture of an ideal cut stone with a 53 table and I set the search parameters from about .39 cts. to 3 cts., D-K color, VVS1-SI2, and there was not one single stone with a 53 table in house! So I don't think it is common for cutters to aim for a table that small on an ideal cut stone.

Have you seen it in person and compared it to ideal cut stones with larger tables? Do you have a picture you could post?

Mmmm. Gimme gimme.
I saw an RB with a 53 table once... I do love me some tiny tables

With a smaller table there's more crown area, and larger crown facets, though a lower crown means it'll slope more gently up from girdle to table-edge. You're getting the same crown height as another stone with a larger table and steeper crown angle though. Good for coloured light return (or rather, you may see more coloured light return in some types of "mixed" lighting - not just spotlights or diffuse office lights - than another stone of same size and similar proportions with same crown angle and larger table)

ETA: here's one DS!

Thanks Yssie! I ordered a pair one time with 54 tables and they just didn't seem as bright/white as my others. But maybe that wasn't actually the case?

ETA: I do love the smaller tables on antique cuts, however!

If the cut favours colored light it may not favour white light return as much :read:

It's fine.
