Hello all,

I'm quite interested in the diamond below:

Shape: Round
Carat Weight: 0.83
Color: I
Clarity: SI2
Graded By: AGS
Cut Grade: Ideal
Depth: 60.3%
Table: 56%
Girdle: Medium
Culet: None
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 6.10 x 6.06 x 3.70

My main concern is the SI2 rating it was given with only a crystal and feather.
I have attached the inclusion mapping from the AGS Certificate.
From what I've researched, since the inclusion is marked red, that means it's only on the inside of the diamond, correct?

Thank you very much for your time!

**edit** - My apologies for such a small picture. That's the size that the certification came up as online.

You can''t tell from an inclusion plot whether or not it will be eye-clean. You either need to see the diamond in person or have a trusted person look at it. Is there a return policy? You could order it and send it back if it''s not eye-clean to your standards.

Yes, there''s a 30-day return policy. I might just jump on it and check it out.

The only thing I''ll be losing if it isn''t eye clean is the $20 it costs to ship/insure it back.

Also, I''m not sure if this is true or not. But I was told that SI ratings in theory should be eye clean if properly graded.

Is that correct?

The best thing you can do is ask your vendor to visually examine the stone and give you his feedback.

I''m guessing your concern is either 1) is it eyeclean or 2) structural integrity. In either case, if it''s an inhouse stone, the vendor should be able to help you with those questions.

If the concern is in regards to eyeclean, be sure to ask what his definition of ''eyeclean'' is to make sure you''re on the same wavelength.

Best of luck - looks like it will be a beautiful stone!

To a point, yes. I can think of a few long-time appraisers here on Pricescope who''ve said essentially the same thing.....that the inclusions in most SI1 and SI2 stones won''t be visible to the unaided eye.

However, I''ve typically understood this to mean ''when viewed face-up from normal viewing distance''. Most will also tell you that it''s sometimes possible to see inclusions when viewed from the side, even in VS goods.

It''s important to understand that there is no regulated definition of eyeclean, so you need to ask your dealer what he defines as eyeclean. For us, we define eyeclean as ''No inclusions visible face-up at a distance of 8-10 inches in natural lighting to a person with 20/20 vision."

Understanding your dealer''s definition will help you determine if the stone is likely to be a suitable match for you.
