Hey all, I'm comparing 2 AGS 000 diamonds to 2 GIA non branded diamonds, and wanted to know which one you would pick out of the 2 AGS options. ASET on the way for the first, so just initial impressions until it comes in/ answers to any of the questions I posted, or anything else you notice!! lol.

Here is the first:
http://www.jamesallen.com/?q=comfort%20fit#!/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/1.64-carat-E-color-VS1-clarity-sku-197300

Here is what JA Gemologist had to say about the stone: Diamond #197300 (PRI 1.64 E VS1) is a very, very white and lovely diamond. The light performance is amazing and evenly spread. This is a very symmetrical stone with a beautiful cut. It is slightly smaller than the other two stones, but it will not be noticeable to the naked eye. The table is very small, so it creates a lot of brilliance and light. There are no visible inclusions.

What I like about it: Love the cut/color/only 1 small inclusion area on the perimeter/rare cut/rare sized table??
What I don't like: The spread seems smallish for a diamond this size and its at the VERY top of what Id like to pay ($15,610 with PS discount)

Question 1: Is it rare to find a diamond with a table this size and what advantage, if any, does that provide?
Question 2: Can anyone tell me what the HCA score is for this stone, and what does it mean?

Here is the second diamond:
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-2774476.htm

Don't know much about this diamond, but here is what I like: Bigger spread at lower ct weight, $600 cheaper. light performance images provided.
What im cautious of: The G color.

Question 1: Are the ACA's really better than other AGS Triple Ideal cut diamonds when comparing light performance etc.
Question 2: Can anyone tell me the HCA score for this stone, and what does it mean?

And finally......WHICH ONE WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?
Thanks guys!! (hope to post the ASET for the first and the other 2 GIA non branded diamonds as soon as the info comes back and hopefully come to a decision.)

Re: AGS Triple Ideal Showdown!! Would love to hear your 2 ce

HCA is only used for round stones. Can you get an aset for the JA one? That would help us decide better.

Re: AGS Triple Ideal Showdown!! Would love to hear your 2 ce

I just love the JA first stone. I don't know alot about the table question so I will defer to other PS ers

Re: AGS Triple Ideal Showdown!! Would love to hear your 2 ce

Ahh, so HCA is out of the question. ASET should be sent to me within the next day or two. Any other accurate way to compare each of the stones cut quality or angles besides whats been provided? I apparently can't order any more imaging once the I get the 3 stone ASET imaging comparisons back from them and 1 of the GIA diamond evals...

Re: AGS Triple Ideal Showdown!! Would love to hear your 2 ce

I agree, I fell in love with almost every aspect of it. Only thing that is really bugging me is the smallish spread and being at the TOP of my price range. Honestly I would buy it if it was definitively better than the other 3 options i'm looking at. If the price was justified. We will see. I'm just going to compare the 2 AGS options at the moment and see if there is a clear better choice. If neither choice ends up being good, I might need to call the vendors and see what they have that isn't currently being advertised in their online selections that has similar specs and start over again.

Re: AGS Triple Ideal Showdown!! Would love to hear your 2 ce

You will never notice the size difference between these two. Side by side, you might be able to see a color difference between G and E, particularly if you tilt. In any case, G is very white and is no reason to worry.

The E has a higher crown and a smaller table, and should have stronger contrast than the G. Both should be very pretty, and the differences between them is best observed in person. I would probably go with the E.... no strong preference, but just a lot of little things adding up to me leaning towards the E.

Re the spread, the E is a little bit smaller in the length x width dimensions, but that extra weight is going into the higher crown, which still has an impact.

Re: AGS Triple Ideal Showdown!! Would love to hear your 2 ce

I do like the E. So you're saying that putting weight into the crown isn't a bad thing? Any other PS's want to give their thoughts on which of these 2 they like the most?

Re: AGS Triple Ideal Showdown!! Would love to hear your 2 ce

Smaller table and higher crown, generally speaking, means more fire.

The right amount of contrast, generally speaking, means better scintillation.

Re: AGS Triple Ideal Showdown!! Would love to hear your 2 ce

you aren't comparing apples to apples. One is an E color and the other is a G color. At this carat weight, color impacts prices significantly.

With that said, most princess cuts hide color really well. The diamond from whiteflash looks very good on the ASET.

Re: AGS Triple Ideal Showdown!! Would love to hear your 2 ce

the James Allen stone looks more contrasted. My guess is that the aset will show patches of blue in the middle but should look more fire-y based on proportions.

Re: AGS Triple Ideal Showdown!! Would love to hear your 2 ce

Tough call, I think that they are both great choices. For me I think it would come down to whether I wanted to slighter larger (very slightly) size, or better color. Princess cuts retain color in the corners, but your still looking at a G which is very white so unless your uber color sensitive I wouldn't think you would notice it unless it was side by side and loose with the E beside it....which it won't be. I guess my personally preference would be for the E, because I like small tables and high crowns, but I truly don't think that you can make a bad decision between these two. Do both vendors have a setting that you like? Does one have policies that you prefer? Do you feel more comfortable doing business with one over the other?

Re: AGS Triple Ideal Showdown!! Would love to hear your 2 ce

At the moment i'm leaning toward the E as far as the AGS diamonds go. Going to wait until I get the ASET's back and then compare the 2 to finalize an opinion. Would love to hear all your thoughts comparing the images when they arrive!

Once again, thanks PSers!

Re: AGS Triple Ideal Showdown!! Would love to hear your 2 ce

Just got the ASET results back for the AGS 1.64. So what do you guys think in comparison to the ACA 1.61?

In addition, here is what the GG at JA said about the 1.64: (1.64ct E VS1; $15,610) is another true beauty, with a gorgeous, clean E color. This diamond has beautiful symmetry and higher contrast; the gemologist felt that it produced an awesome amount of flash and fire when under direct lighting, due to the smaller table and higher crown. To find an AGS Princess is a rare thing-- this is going to be a very special diamond. This is also eye-clean.

All the best
Todd

The whiteflash would be my choice. I feel like the JA stone (although lovely) has too much contrast for my taste.
