Here is a press release from this morning. I believe that it portends good things in that AGS and GIA are once again beginning to work together for the improvement of the gem sciences. I know that the folks at AGS are excited about some things they are doing together, and I believe this is a very positive step for the trade and for the eventual benefits to the consumer as well.

AGS Supports GIA with Symposium Sponsorship

Carlsbad, Calif. – Aug. 7, 2006 — The American Gem Society (AGS) will be a sponsor of the Gemological Institute of America’s (GIA) 4th International Gemological Symposium, Aug. 27–29 in San Diego, Calif.

“The American Gem Society is proud to support our sister organization at the 2006 International Gemological Symposium,” said Ruth Batson, AGS executive director and CEO. “Our organizations are both driven by the same goals and vision of our founder, Robert M. Shipley. AGS believes what is good for GIA is good for the jewelry industry.”

“As the event draws closer, I am thrilled to see the support for Symposium continuing to grow,” said Kathryn Kimmel, GIA vice president of Marketing and Public Relations and event co-chair. “Because of the generosity of AGS and our many other sponsors, this unique event promises to be enjoyable and valuable for everyone.”
