AGS Report Question

Is there a reason why on an AGS Report for an SI1 H diamond, there are no markings indicating where the inclusions are on the diagram? I thought it was just the sample form on the James Allen site, so I requested the acutal number and looked it up on the AGS site and there are still no markings. Is this just a fluke or is there a reason for this?

AGS sells several reports.
The least expensive may not have plots of inclusions.

The one they call Diamond Quality Analysis seems to have no inclusion plots.
Must be cheaper and ordered for less-expensive diamonds, or smaller ones.

Oh okay. The one I'm looking at is not the one you indicated, it is a "diamond quality document". Will this not show the inclusions either?

The date is June 4, 2012. It looks just like that except there are no markings of any kind showing inclusions.

On the left under comments does it say, "Clarity grade set by ___________"?

Nope. It does say additional twinning wisps and surface graining are not shown. I've seen that before on a lot of other reports but it has always been in addition to the indicated markings.

Perhaps the twinning wisps are serious enough to grade it SI1, but you'd think they'd be plotted, unless there are a zillion tiny ones or something.

I'd call AGS and ask them what's up.

Did you see the pic of the report on JA's site or did you look it up on the AGS website?
Sometimes if the photographer overexposes the pic it washes out fine lines and spots.

Okay, thanks! I will give them a call. I looked it up on the JA website and then when I saw there were no markings, I then looked it up on the AGS site as well. It looked identical. No markings either.

Hi Saucy!

How many digits does the AGS certificate number have? And if you don't mind, what are the first 6 or so digits?

PDF copies for AGS certified diamonds have only been available since the summer of 2009, I think August, but sometime around then. Sometimes diamonds are re-certified if they have changed hands between vendors and for other various reasons. I have found a few times that if a diamond was originally certified before 2009, the inclusion plot will not appear on the web copy, only on the original

It also may be that the inclusions are so small, you have to zoom in 500% to even see them on the plot.

If it's the 1st case, just ask the vendor to physically scan the original certificate showing the plot.

Good Luck!

Thanks so much for your help!! I think it may be the 1st case you are referring to, as I contacted AGS and they don't have a copy of the original. I have asked the vendor to send me a new scan. The number of the certificate is 7786301. Thanks again :)
