I was wondering what it means if I see a recent AGS certification, but without any light performance based testing? The certification is from July 2006. I was under the impression that in June 2005 AGS started providing the option for manufacturers to use either the old Diamond Quality Document (NOT light-performance based) or the new Diamond Quality Document (light-performance based). I was also under the impression that, starting in September of 2005, only the newer light-performance based test was utilized.

So, for a July 2006 certification, it should be light performance based, but it is not. What does this mean? Should I assume the worst (i.e., it wouldn''t have passed muster)?

If requested by the manufacturer, the AGS will still grade round diamonds using the old proportions-based DQD. The reason given is to allow manufacturers and sellers time to adapt. It's important to know that some diamonds cut to the outer limits of AGS0 under the old system will not receive Ideal under the new performance-based system.

When considering an old DQD issued after 2005 it is prudent to inquire why the diamond was not requested for grading under the new system.

Peter Yantzer told us in a Pricescope video interview (that we hope to play) that within about 6 months the old reports should be dropped.
