I would like to get some opinions on a 1.007 carat round brilliant diamond measuring 6.40 - 6.44 X 3.93 mm I am considering purchasing. It has an AGS certificate with cut grade 0 (light performance 0, Proportion factors 0, Finish 0, polish ideal, symmetry ideal). Color grade E, Clarity SI1 (no inclusions under the table), Fluorescence negligible. The table is 58.7%, depth 61.4%, crown angle 34.9, pavillion 40.9 and culet pointed. The price is $6000. When looking thru a H&A viewer there appears to be very crisp, symetric hearts and arrows. Is the table too large? How are the other proportions? When measurements are plugged into HCA it gives a score of only 2.2 and all very goods...no excellents. I would greatly appreciate any advice on this diamond''s proportions as well as the price. Thanks in advance.

Bump! My dinner is ready, so I will pop back later and see if I can do a quick search for you.

Hi Andy!

The traditional AGS ideal parameters (pre 2005) allowed tables between 53-57%. Anything larger was not allowed a 0 grade. But this has now been updated to the performance based grade, rather than proportion based, so it now seems tables including and above 60% can now qualify for the AGS0 cut grade, depending on how they perform and other proportions being desirable. The diamond looks potentially very nice, do you have an Idealscope image for it? That would be more useful than the HCA in this case.
Also this info might be useful, for you to be able to clarify that this diamond is a true H&A diamond, if that is what you want. Because a diamond displays what seems to be a good hearts and arrows pattern, doesn't necessarily mean it is a true example of this precision cut.

I do not have an idealscope image. I was a little concerned that the table was 58.7% and the HCA was giving it a 2.2 rating. How good is the new AGS performance based system at predicting how well the diamond will preform? Are there any ray tracing programs that would help? Thanks again.

2.2 is a good score. AGS system is very good, especially with rounds. You don''t need ray-trace, in that AGS has already done that for you.

I believe you are getting a small discount for the table, as I expect probably to pay 6000 for a more traditional 56/57 table, in F/G color.

Thanks to all for your kind assistance.
