I'm working with a jeweler trying to find some 1 carat SI1 stones. We found a couple that fit the specs I'm looking for. I'm just weary that since the certifications were from mid 2004 and no one has bought them yet, that there is something wrong with them. Should I be concerned with the date of the certification or should I go ahead and ask the jeweler to bring it in.

edit 7/15

anymore info about the certifications or just the diamonds in general. i need to contact the jeweler in the next 1 or 2 hours to let him know what's going on and if i should bring in any diamonds to look at...any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Are you looking for unusual specs?

If your jeweler of choice has to bring them in anyway, there will be advantages to the newer certs, yes, I think so. Is it clear what would prevent options with their newer certs, that include light performance, and other weighted factors into determining an AGS0?

Otherwise, if you want to go ahead with a non-new AGS certed option, at least check specs again the HCA, to help insure it''s not only AGS0 but also likely well cut by current conventions.

Regards,

I checked with HCA and it looks really good. Here are the 3 specs of the diamonds with certifications all from 2004. How would you rank them based on the numbers. (anything in red, i'm not sure as the fax of the cert is not clear) Comments

all 3 of those diamonds have potential. when will you be seeing them?

They have to be brought in so it would take a few days. I''m not sure if i can bring in all of them at the same time, so what do you think would be order of preference. Also, any other opinions regarding the 2004 certificates. Should I not even worry about that factor.

Last, anyone think the crown angle of 33.9 on the 2nd diamond is a bit low. HCA reports this to be excellent throughout with a score of 0.9

if you can''t bring them all in at the same time, i would order them 3, 1, 2
no, don''t worry about the cert. date.

You didn't list the diameters. My guess is that #2 has a better spread, (visually larger diameter) and might be interesting. It is more shallow than the other 2. #3 specs out the best for what people think of as "classic ideal". If possible, I'd push to have all three brought in so that you can do a side by side comparison. Sometimes one will just "call your name", and it's much better to be able to do a side by side comparision with your eyes than just with specs.

thanks for the input thus far. i have contacted the jeweler i'm dealing with and he is going to try and see if he can get all of them for a side by side comparison. as for the dimensions, i don't have them with me but yes, the 2nd one has a bigger spread compared to the other 2...actually, a correction to the 3rd diamond, it is a 1.05GSI1...the post with specs has been corrected...
