Hey all,
So, I have my ring and am ready to propose next Saturday night. I do have one question, though. I have been reading on the forum about the old and new AGS certs. I attached my cert to this post. Is this the new AGS cert? One thing I noticed is that there is no cut information on this cert. I know it is an Ideal cut diamond, but I don''t see anywhere on the cert that it says that. When someone talks about AGS0, I believe this refers to the cut, but am I wrong? Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,
David

Thanks Julie...that thread cleared up that question. I guess my next question is should I be upset that WF provided me a new DQR instead of a new DQD? Without the AGS ideal on a DQD, what basis does WF have in stating that it is an ideal cut RB?

Should I be asking WF why they didn''t provide a DQD, or am I OK with just the DQR? I just want to make sure everything is as it was presented to me.

Thank you!

All WF ES stones have DQRs. It maintains the prestige of the ACA line, which have DQDs.

So then is it WF that determines that the cut is an ideal? If I ever had a DQD done for this diamond, and give that it is awarded Ex/Ex for symmetry and polish, could I expect that it would receive an ideal from AGS? Or is that just WF calling it an ideal?

Thanks,
David

David, there are 3 types of AGS grading reports.

1. New Diamond Quality Document (DQD) - identifies diamond as an AGS0 and includes Light Performance as part of grade.

2. Old DQD - identifies diamond as one that meets the criteria for the former definition of AGS0. Still available today at vendor request.

3. Diamond Quality Report (DQR) - grading report that includes no cut grading information.

The new AGS0 is a more expensive grading report than the DQR.

"Ideal cut" is a generic term meaning top-make stone. "AGS0" means a stone earns the top cut-grade rank from AGS.
As such, your diamond can be an ''ideal'' cut without necessarily being an AGS0.

No, I don''t think so. If I recall correctly, the stone you purchased is an Expert Selection. Those stones offer a great value because the grading report is less expensive; that savings is passed along to you. It''s why the ES stones offer such a great value.

In calling it an ''ideal cut'' stone, they are telling you that it is a fine-make stone. They aren''t representing it as an AGS0 stone; the only true AGS0 stones are those that come with AGS0 paper. However, it may be AGS0-comparable. :-)
