I know a diamond is either H&A or it is not.

What is required for it to be considered a H&A?
1 - based on its H&A image report? How strong of its H&A image does it need to be for it to be classified as H&A?

2 - does it need to say "Hearts and Arrow" on the AGS report or is AGS 000 sufficient? For a particular diamond on their website it says H&A but when I reviewed the AGS report, it doesn''t say H&A and I asked the rep how s/he knew it was H&A if it doesn''t say that on the AGS report. The rep says "it says AGS 000." Do you agree? I disagree

1) base on H&A image only. Some vendors/cutters has more stringent criteria than others. That is why you need to view the image yourself and determine if that fits your criteria.

2) No. AGS does not grade whether a stone is H&A or not, AGS0 cut grade only deals with optical performance. Whose website? You mean the vendor's? As AGS does not say if a stone is H&A, not where in the report will that be mentioned unless there is an inscription on the girdle by the cutter, then AGS will just note what is written on the girdle, not that if it is true or not.

Ask the seller for a photograph of the specific diamond you are considering as seen through a Gems Fantasy Scope (H&A viewer) and post the pictures here for comment. Neither the AGS or GIA gemological laboratories grade diamonds for Hearts & Arrows at this time, thus any reference to "H&A" should be considered to be the opinion of the seller and "opinions" vary dramatically from vendor to vendor. I don''t think that vendors should make the claim that a diamond is "H&A" without providing images of the actual patterns of hearts and arrows to be found within the specific diamond, but hey, that''s just me.

I agree and as a consumer if I want to buy a h&a diamond then I expect images to support that claim.

ditto the best "grade" a diamond can get without heart images is excellent face up optical symmetry(which requires an IS/ASET image to get) which should sell at a discount under a h&a stone with heart images.
