My fiance wanted a 5 stone anniversary diamond ring for an engagement ring. I went to what I thought was a reputable jeweler. He didn''t have one in his store, but said he could make anything. I don''t know much about jewelry, so I gave a general description to him and asked him to use his expertise to make a nice looking ring. I told him this was a very special time in my life. I told him I didn''t mind if he made a reasonable profit, of course, but please don''t exploit me.
After a very romantic proposal in Rome, my fiance had to go through the agony of telling me she does not like the ring. The ring looks terrible. It is a very thing ring with 5 buckets welded onto it by hand. It has large gaps (more than 1 mm) between the stones that gather dirt. It has sharp edges that dig into her fingers. The diamonds were supposed to be G, SI1, but several jewelers told me they are more like I, I1. I paid $1500 for the ring, but have found similar rings with real G, SI1 stones for under $1000. The money I lost is bad enough, but the grief this has cost me and my fiance is far worse.
The jeweler won''t take the ring back and won''t answer my emails.
I feel awful. I''m have no experience with anything like this.
What can I do?
