Will I feel stupid? I am getting married in San Francisco so it will be cold at night. So I either need to get something to wear over my dress, or get another dress to change into.

A part of me wants to wear my dress all day since its my wedding dress and its the only time I''ll ever get to wear it. Plus my dress (pictured below) is not extremely bridal. But what can I wear over it to keep me warm?

I would totally wear that dress for the rest of the day. Why not get a pashmina? You could get any number of gorgeous colours, and I find I wear the 2 I have way more than I ever thought I would. The silk blend ones aren''t too expensive, and you can get them all over the internet.

Ditto the pashmina - in a really rich color would be lovely. I had a burgundy one for my wedding, and even though we got married in San Francisco in July, on a beautiful sunny day, I was still really glad to have it for the warmth.

Okay, I''m embarrassed... I had to look that up! That would be perfect! Is it pronounced "Pajj-meena?" Are the silk blend ones close in quality? Are the pure pashmina warmer?

Oh, and... Do you think I should do pink or white? I''m wearing my dress with pale pink shoes and pink pearl earings. I''m thinking a pink shawl will be too much, but white might make me look too bridal. What would you do?

I think the silk ones aren''t as warm, but the one I have is plenty warm enough, I find.

As for colour, if you like white and think it''s flattering to you, go for it! How can you look "too bridal" on your own wedding day? Alternately, I might choose a rich colour, as AmberGretchen suggested. Something like this might play nicely with pink shoes. What''s your favourite colour?

Oh yeah- duh! I don''t know why I was thinking it had to be white or pink! I think I would like one more on the neutral side so I can wear it with other outfits later.

Would you mind looking at this link and telling me which neutral shade you think would compliment the pink? What about a gray shade like stone or silver, or would that look "Bleh?"

If you dont want to do a pashmina you can do a bolero jacket with that, or a lightweight cashmere sweater...White & Warren have them I think if you do a search. I wore my wedding dress for my elopement - from about 4pm - 11pm or so. I had a lace bolero made and I wore it over the dress when it got chilly and yes, I went to dinner in my wedding gown. It''s your WEDDING DAY silly, of course you have to wear your dress all day! All night! You''re hopefully only a bride once so enjoy it and get some mileage outta that dress...People will know you''re a bride..just carry some flowers!

I would totally wear my dress around town all day. The pashmina is a great idea, it''ll look stunning with your beautiful dress.

I like the sparkle one and the silver one. I''m partial towards the lighter grays.

If you wanted to do a wrap, pashmina thing, but are having a hard time trying to find one that works - go to a fabric store, get about four yards of 44/48 inch wide fabric (approx. length, go longer if you want), fold in half, and then hem it up. It is usually much cheaper (depending on the fabric) and a huge time saver..

I''d definitely wear it around all day. I love the pashmina/wrap idea. It''s a beautiful dress!!

Mia, I love your dress. Who makes it?

gotta love davids bridal!! this was one of my favorite dresses of theirs, but it just fit me weird because i have a midget waist. ::sigh:: it''s really pretty!!! congratulations on a lovely dress and for thinking things through more than i do--i would''ve tossed a denim jacket over it and called it a day, haha!

Haha! Jean jacket was my original plan!!!!! I told my boss and she looked horrified, which made me second guess that decision. I still think it would look so cute but were going to a formal restaurant for dinner (most likely) so I thought I''d get something a little dressier!

Thanks for the info.
I love the jean jacket idea...especially if you do blue shoes as your something blue.

Feel stupid? NO. Absolutely NOT.

Cold. Yeck yeah. And um, in addition to the pashmina I''m have something warmer, like a coat, standing by just in case. It gets really freaking cold with no rhyme or reason. Especially if you are anywhere near UCSF medical center... that place never seems to heat up!

I could see either stone or silver being very elegant over your outfit. Which one depends a little on your colouring. Silver looks to me to have more blue in it, so if you often wear cool colours, that might be a better choice for you. If you wear a lot of warm colours, maybe stone would be a better choice, or even clove (one of the richer browns).

As for whether it would be blah, that again depends on you. If you''re a natural redhead, probably not.

If you have less vivid colouring, those shades might tend to wash you out.

I have two pashminas. One is pink, the other apricot. There isn''t anything much I own that I can''t wear one or the other with - it never matches, but it always complements. You might get more wear than you think out of one in your favourite colour. If your favourite colour is grey, then you''re on the right track, and I''d get silver. But if you''re choosing those shades because you think they''d be practical, you might end up not wearing it as much as one you love.

I really love the pashmina idea or a bolero a la neatfreak!

cut rock..where are you doing your wedding?
I am having my 2nd reception in SF.
I bought a silk coat with gold sequins on sale at Bloomingdales in SF for 99$ about 2 weeks ago.
It''s Anne Kline...maybe they will have another.

Thanks everyone for your advice! I just ordered the pashmina in sparkle. FI is going to be wearing silvers and grays so I think it will actually make us compliment each other.

NewsySuzy- We''re just eloping to City Hall and then after our photoshoot with our photographer, we will go to a late lunch/early dinner at a nice restaurant - I''m thinking the Carnelian room, since neither of us has been there before (let me know if you have any other suggestions though!)

I have never been to the CR. My favorite dinners in SF have been at Perbacco downtown, and Chez Panisse Cafe in Berkley.
Cliff House was a let down. I have not eaten there, but Frascati on Hyde looks really nice, I almost had my reception there. Make sure to take a cable car ride, I bet the pictures will look great. Fifth Floor is beautiful(no views though) and the food while gourmet, was a little too nouvelle cuisine for me.
Forgive any spelling problems.
Good luck and congrats!
