Hi there.
I am relatively new to PS and have learnt an awful lot in a few weeks!
I have been ring-browsing (no shopping yet!) with my BF and have seen a ring that I like. I have also checked out rings in the online vendors mentioned on the site. I am in the UK so to buy in the US would be significantly cheaper - and on-line even more so.
However, I have seen a ring that I like in a B&M store here.
solitaire in 4-prong platinum setting, not too high, quite fine work.

1.1 ct, G, SI2

It has a GIA cert; grade VG, polish and symmetry VG.
Table 60.5%
Crown height 14% angle 35.5
Pavilion 42% - angle 35.5
Girdle - thick and faceted.
No fluo, no culet

The price here is £5200 which works out at about $9980. However, regarding costs, if I bought in the US and had it shipped over there would be shipping and tax to pay (I am not sure what the exact amount would be).

Basically - what do you think of the ring/stone?
How easy is it to buy in the US from the UK? (- I am worried that the setting might be too high, or too chunky as some of the on-line ones look a little heavy, can you send it back, do you get the setting sent over to check out? etc)
Does anyone know the additional costs when importing from the US to the UK?

Sorry for the rambling post, these things have probably been covered elsewhere!
Thank you in advance!

You have missed including the depth of the stone. Do you have that measurement?

I don''t, I''m sorry. I was scribbling the details too quickly...

Hi ELH,

Can you check your figures please, we need the crown and the pavilion angles please, it appears you posted the crown angle for both? Also can you check the table measurement you provided isn't the actually the depth percentage? We also need the diameter measurements please. The girdle could be better not being graded as thick, but post the rest of the info then we can get a better idea.

See this thread and Pandora's post in particular, about the charges you would have to pay if buying a ring from the US.

Thanks- I don''t have the dimentions, I didn''t realise the depth was included in that (bit dense, I know!)
Table 60.5%
Crown height 14%, angle 35.5
Pavillion 42% with angle of 40
I''ll get the measurements- I am new to reading these GIA certs!

If you could get all the measurements from the report and post it, then we can go from there. Can you recheck the pavilion angle also please?
