Hello, I''m new to the forum here and would like to say hi.

I have a question. I have 2 diamonds that I am looking at. One has the following specs:

Price - $9.300

Round Brilliant
Measurements: 6.19 - 6.24 x 3.81 mm
Carat Weight: 0.91
Color Grade: D
Clarity Grade: VS2
Cut Grade: Excellent

Proportions:
Depth: 61.3 %
Table: 60 %
Crown Angle: 35.5°
Crown Height: 14.5 %
Pavilion Angle: 41°
Pavilion Depth: 43.5 %
Star length: 55 %
Lower Half: 80 %
Girdle: Thin to Slightly Thick, Faceted
Culet: None

Finish:
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good
Fluorescence: None
Clarity Characteristics: Crystal, Feather

The second one has the following specs:

Price: $7.676

Shape: Round Ideal Cut
Carat: 1.01
Color Grade: D
Clarity Grade: VS2
Depth %: 61.8
Table %: 56
Crown Angle: 35
Crown %: 15.5
Star : 55
Pavilion Angle: 41
Pavilion %: 43
Lower Girdle %: 75
Girdle: Thin to Medium Faceted
Measurements: 6.45-6.47X3.99
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Excellent
Culet: Pointed
Fluorescence: Negligible

Now it seems to me like the second one is a much better deal and is a much better diamond according to the cut advisor, and I''m trying to decide why I would even bother paying $9,300 for what appears to be a lesser quality stone. Any advice? Thanks!!

I just thought of another question...

The $9300 stone is from an actual jewelry store (Bailey Banks & Biddle, Portland OR) while the $7676 stone is from an online jewelry store (whiteflash.com). Is there an advantage to going to a brick and mortar store as opposed to an online store?

Thank you!

Just bought a WF Diamond after much comparison at B&M and on site. Yes, Whiteflash all the way...........

No contest. Whiteflash. Plus that extra money toward a killer setting!

What settings are you looking at BTW?

Well, my girlfriend''s having a hard time choosing, and pretty much changes her mind every other day, but she is set on the typr of stone. I DO know that it will be a round stone with a 4 prong setting. Also, I know that she wants something along the lines of this:

Tacori Ring

Ooooh Another Stunning Tacori setting. God tacori has some of the most awesome settings for rounds.

I was one that couldn''t make up my mind about the setting too. If I''d had a round though... I think it would have been nearly impossible... I don''t know what I would have picked between a vintage style setting like the Tacoris, A classic solitare with a super blingy eternity band, or a three stone. Such a hard decision.

I love the one she''s chosen though. I really do. I would have easily made my short list of settings. Please post pics (hand shots, close ups, outdoors, indoors) when it''s done. We''d love to see!!!

Thanks, I''m a big fan of Tacori as well, so I think we''ll ultimately go with that setting or a custom one like it.

Another question...her ring size is 3.75. What would be a good size diamond for that ring size, and would it be better to get a top-quality small stone or a bigger stone and sacrifice on quality a bit? I know that anything too big will dwarf her hand, so I''m thinking that a smaller stone (.85c-.95c) would be best. Any thoughts?

Thanks!
