Hello friends,

I have been a lurker - looking at charts, studying photos, reading, reading, and reading. I am in the market to strengthen my relationship with the misses, and just need your thoughts. I think it is priced pretty expensive at $47,026:

http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2696789.htm

Depth % 61.6
Table % 56.2
Crown Angle 34.9
Star 52.0
Pavilion Angle 40.9
Crown % 15.1
Lower Girdle % 78.0
Measurements 8.35x8.37x5.15
Culet Pointed
Fluorescence Negligible
Girdle Thin to Medium Faceted

Thoughts?
Rick

no sucha thing as a cheap well cut stone... ;))

It is an amazing diamond. You pay a lot for the branded cut, and the color and clarity. Change one of those variables and the price will lower.

HCA is 1.1. Wish it was better!

You are both misinterpreting the HCA. It is a dichotomous tool -- under 2 means worth further investigation. There is no such thing as "better" than 1.1.

Beyond that when you have an ideal scope image and real photography like WF provides, you do not need to use the HCA at all. Images trump the HCA.

You all have been helpful, and I appreciate the time you are taking to respond.

Would a smaller stone, but an E VS2 with a similar price (47,158) be better? It looks not as well cut, but E.

Depth % 61.6
Table % 54.9
Crown Angle 35.0
Star 54.0
Pavilion Angle 40.7
Crown % 15.7
Lower Girdle % 76.0
Measurements 8.13x8.18x5.03

HCA 1.2

Are both stones ACA's? If they are, I don't think you could really say one is going to look better than the other. Both look beautifully cut. My diamond is G VS1 so that is my personal preference. Oh, and the price on the G VS1 is $44,703 if you mention you are a PriceScope member and pay by wire. That is a significant savings. And there is a definite visual size difference between 2.0 and 2.19 cts. as well.

Yes, they are both ACA... good eyes! Looking at AGS, the E appears symmetrically better, but the G has smaller inclusions and has no clouds. Sigh.

Those are just computer generated ASET images. The actual ASET images are more important and both look excellent.

I would not pay more for E color personally.

Clarity is not really important at the VS level, though you should make sure the VS2 is eye clean to your own standards.

Both are equally well cut.

+1.

I agree, I would pay more for the E color either, I don't think that you will visual be able to appreciate the difference. Are you firm on purchasing an ACA? There is another price drop if you view the expert selection and they are still excellently cut stones. Some would argue that the visual difference between the two aren't worth the difference in price. I think that cut nuts can and will appreciate the slight nuances of an ACA, but the average consumer will probably never be able to visual appreciate the subtle differences.

I guess I would defer to what your SO wants. What important to her - color, weight, shape, clarity, cut, brand?

You're absolutely right. But for me the ranking is cut, color, carat, and clarity. And she'll HAVE to like it in that order too!
