This site is great for someone like me who is easily confused. I am going to ask my girlfriend to marry me and would like some advice on the purchase of a ring. I am looking for a Princess cut, 1 to 1.5ct ring in the 5000 to 7000 price range. I have read everything about I can on this site and many more but still havent a clue. Any suggestions?

Hi Archer,

The best thing to do is to check out vendors who have in house diamonds, you can''t judge a Princess by the numbers, you need detailed pics and images such as ASET to be able to do so. I would start with these vendors, see which you like or who has the diamond you are interested in and go from there. The AGS0 cut grade Princess can be excellent choices and take some of the guesswork out of finding a beautiful diamond. Here are the vendors.

Start with these chaps then go from there. As to colour and clarity, this is a personal preference but a good middleground in a Princess might be G or H colour and VS2 to verified eyeclean SI1 clarity to get the most diamond for your money.

Use this to search for your stones. :)

Found these, should be eye-clean but call up GOG and check to make sure.

USD 6165, 1.19ct G SI1

USD 5001, 1.08ct I VS2

Good Luck.

Hi Archer.

You have indicated a size range. What is your next priority? Sparkle/performance? Appearance of no tint/color - or preference for tint/color? No inclusions visible - or preference for a small identifying inclusion or two? How about the configuration of the princess...square? Off-square? If you provide more information the regulars here may be able to assist you more specifically.

Ya, there are too many candidates for your price and size range.

Thank you all for your responses. My next preference is sparkle and I don''t care about occlusions that are not visible with naked eye. She would be happy with just about anything. I would like to get the biggest ct I can, but still preserve some sparkle. Thanks.

I think option #1 from Stone Cold above, or this one from Nice Ice will do just fine. Yep.

It is cut which will give you the sparkle, I don't know how much of your budget you want to allocate to the diamond, and how much towards the setting, but here is a diamond which might fit the bill, great vendor too.

LOL Ira, seems we both like that one from NI!

Now, I dont want to scare you with this option but I just bought an O color from wink and It is gorgeous and because of the cut I cannot tell anything more from a slight "warmth" to it.

Wink Jones at Winfields will give you a video interview of this diamond and let you konw how it performs outside, inside, wherever...

Having realized how much money i saved from dropping my color, and the little apparent affect on the diamonds performance, I am a very happy camper.

It has even been said that the warmth can add contrast to fire making the colors appear stronger.
Another plus is the very strong blue fluorescence that will "whiten" the diamond.

This would be a very fun and beautiful diamond that people would love to look at and ask questions about.

Congrats on your engagement.
My first engagement ring stone was a D color.
8 years later and this time I went for a K.
(same DH - just got treated to an upgrade!)
Just my two cents ;)

Yap, the NI stone has the best bang for buck IMHO.

Try Winfields, Wink Jones has been great to deal with.
