Looking at the following four 3-carat fancy intense yellow colored stones and curious as to why there is such a large price/carat difference for this one stone (bold) for what looks to be the table/depth issue. So the question is: Is the table/depth issue something that is all that noticeable to the average consumer? Here is the data:

Carat, Price, Price/Carat, Color, Cut, Clarity, Table, Depth, Polish, Symmetry, Length, Width, Depth, Ratio, Flour
3.11, $35,872, $11,534 , Fancy Intense, Cushion, VVS2, 59.0 , 69.1, Excellent, Very good, 7.94, 7.76, 5.36, 1.02 , None
3.21, $51,049, $15,903, Fancy Intense, Radiant, VS1, 64.0, 64.0, Good, Good, 9.08, 7.88, 5.04, 1.15, Medium
3.08, $51,286, $16,651, Fancy Intense, Cushion, VVS2, 65.0, 67.9, Very good, Very good, 7.97, 7.76, 5.27, 1.03, None
3.01, $57,336, $19,049, Fancy Intense, Radiant, IF, 65.0, 68.9, Very good, Very good, 8.35, 7.36, 5.05, 1.13, None

Thanks for any advice!

Firstly I am assuming they all diamonds. Next are they all from the same seller? Have you seen them all in person? The overall beauty of the stone and slight color intensity can affect price.

Yes they are all diamonds and they are all from Blue Nile. So even within the same color intensity, in this case Fancy Intense, there is that much variation to create that much price difference?

Yes.
Nature gives us stones with a continuous range of primary, secondary and tertiary colors, and in a continuous range of color strengths.
But GIA can't have thousands of narrow color grades.
The have only 9 Tone/Saturation levels and only 12 basic "hues": Pink, Purple, Violet, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red, Brown, Gray and Black and Fancy White ... then there are all the possible combinations of hues with names like Purplish Pink or Brownish Orangey Pink.

One Yellow diamond may have a bit of green in it but not enough green for GIA to grade it Greenish Yellow.
Another yellow may have a bit of brown in it but not enough brown for GIA to grade it Brownish Yellow.
So of these two stones (both with the same GIA grade of Fancy Intense Yellow) which do you think will cost less?
Answer: the one with a bit of brown.

Next, the saturation also varies.
Leibish chops up the Fancy Intense grade into 10 sub-grades and prices accordingly.

Sorry, but this all makes it difficult to compare stone and their prices.
White diamond pricing is much more easy to wrap your head around.

Since you are looking at stones in the $50k+ range, I think it is especially important to look at all your options and check the return policies. If you can get comparison photos, it might help you decide too, since seeing them next to each other might help you see one that stands out.

So Kenny, What price range should I expect when Leibish states "Call for Price"?

Not kenny, but I remember they said in a thread that they have the 'call for price' statement on diamonds they don't have in house or are still trying to price it accordingly. I looked through their posts here and couldn't find it sooo maybe my memory made that up.

This was recently listed for half a mil so it doesn't seem that they mind publishing high priced diamonds: http://www.leibish.com/orange-diamond/083ct-fancy-vivid-orange-round-i1-150661-20802

Thanks LK,
Mein Gott, half a mil for 0.83ct. and not even close as vivid as your picture to boot.

Aww my sphalerite appreciates your comment :praise: If sphalerite were harder though....

And just fyi, usually it is a softer orange. My profile pic was taken with tons of sunlight on tin foil so it looked really super duper vivid.

Sorry, I have no idea.

I was told once that one reason some are CFP is certain very expensive stones are less appealing to certain customers if they had a published price.
Certain people want the value of their gems to be secret.
