i've been asking questions of a certain vendor, and one of the reps has recommended a variety of stones. this one however i'm on the fence about and being a noob i would like some professional advice from the PSers!

it is a 1.02 H (but closer to G) SI2 nil fluor that has been guaranteed to be eye clean any distance from the face as the inclusions face up white and are spread out. the cut is excellent/ideal with unofficial H&A, ex polish, vg symmetry

the dimensions are:
6.43 x 6.41 x 4.02
depth 62.2%
table 55%
crown 15.7%
pavilion 43.3%
girdle 1.6-2.3%

here is a HD pic of the inclusions (which i'm not too sure if u can't see them in person actually...)

and the idealscope pic:

my main factor here is that this is going for a really competitive price - $4700. but i don't want a dud stone. i am also looking at other more traditionally recommended stones but have to go for a smaller size in the budget.

what does everyone think?

I think there's a reason it's a solid 1k less than stones w/ comparable stats on Blue Nile.

Do the inclusions visibly inhibit light return - does the stone look as bright, sharp, lively, transparent in all types of lights as a cleaner stone of comparable colour and proportions?

Have you seen the hearts and arrows patterns through a scope - or do you have pics?

How old is the report? Has the stone been owned or set or done anything but sit in a box on a shelf since the report was issued?

Just a consumer here with personal experience, but I would not buy this stone for 2 reasons:
1. Inclusions are most likely not eye clean to me.
2. The amount of leakage under the table is most likely noticeable to me.

I would rather drop under the 1 ct mark for a potentially cleaner and better cut stone like these:

I generally don't see a memorable size difference until there's at least a 0.3 mm difference in diameter.

well here's the thing - i can't see it in person; although i've been told it's visually stunning. H&A again he said u can see it on the patterning and even in the pictures.

is there anything else i can ask him for? i mean the HCA checks out on the %s but i know that's not the most accurate.

the consultant has been helping me alot and after reviewing a few he has recommended this one...

thbmok yes i had a few of those bookmarked already ;))

the stone was certified August 31, 2011. didn't think to ask if its not actually brand new :?

i know it's silly but i'd just love to hit the 1ct mark if possible. purely psychological i'm sure (and i know it) but something about that magic number feels a little more exciting haha

There is seriously no way that stone will be eye clean. I would go down a bit in color (I-J) and up at least to an SI1 in clarity. Also--pricewise going JUST under 1ct (like a .97) will get a better price overall than the magical 1 ct mark.

i'm gonna grill him for more information! for both curiosity sake and the potential saving of money.

if it turns out to be not so great i'll prob go for >0.9 stone =)

Should be fine - that's hardly any time at all. The concern isn't whether or not it's new, exactly - it's that if the report was very old, the stone may have been poorly set and/or carelessly worn in the intervening years, and may have acquired chips/nicks/scratches that would not be detailed on the report, and would need to be addressed in some other way.

Why can't you have them ship the stone out loose after you purchase it, before you have it set? Just be sure to get an ironclad, idiot-proof return policy in writing, signed and dated, before you pay :)) I would *strongly* recommend seeing it with your own eyes before having it set, to make sure you are definitely okay with what you see and that you love the stone.

Am I holding my head wrong... It looks off center to me... I could be way off... Because I am no expert. At first glance that was my initial thought.
