can anyone offer a range, or a value?

thanks in advance!

Using the PS database, .90-.99, table 59-62, GIA or AGS, I get results roughly from 2500-4000.

Are you sure? 62% table...do you have the rest of the numbers on the GIA report, such as the crown and pavilion angle?

im sure... looking at the gia report... it is from 1993 (does that matter)?
there is no crown or pavillion angle on this report.

1993 is too old to have angles. Anyway, you would find better looking stones on today's market.

If you're really interested in the stone, you should probably hire an appraiser. Discuss the circumstances of the transaction...make sure it's still in the same condition as it was originally (hasn't sustained damage over 15 years...) and if you can get it for a low enough price, then maybe see if it's a candidate for recut?

Hi Snowpond,

The best thing you can do if you like this diamond, is to make the sale final on it checking out with an independant appraiser, here is a tool you can use to find one in your area. It doesn't appear to be the best cut diamond, but if you like it and it suits your purposes then that is the main thing.

thanks for the advice... i know it sparkles like crazy! does $2500 sound fair?

how much would a re-certification cost, and would it be worth it?

I would leave it, you can do a lot better. I would put your $2.5K towards a better cut stone IMHO.

I would suggest you go and look at some AGS000 stones which are top cuts, even taking this stone along to compare if possible. You will see what a really well cut stone looks like, it will blow it out of the water in terms of sparkliness!

Don''t buy a stone without all the info! From the info posted the cut doesn''t look too good. Whether or not YOU like it of course is the most impotant thing, but before you decided it''s sparkly enough, take it into MANY different kinds of lighting to look at it. Some lighting (jewelry store lighting) will make pretty much ALL diamonds look good, but there is a quite large difference between very-well-cut and not-so-well cut stones out in the real world. The table looks too big on it, and the symmetry is only rated "good." Also, without crown and pavilion angles, you really can''t tell anything. There are so many diamonds out there. Personally I would pass and look for something better. Good luck either way!

did you post the diameter correctly? If yes it is out of round.

Apparently according to John L that type of variance is actually fine for a non superideal.
