Hi everyone, I''m a brand newbie here and value your guys opinion.
Can I get some feedback on this Tiffany diamond?
I know Tiffany doesn''t rank amongst the top here but I''m one of those guys sorta tied to the little blue box with the other half so bear with a fella.
Priced out at $14,400 here is all I could get my hands on from Tiffany-

Numbers look slightly deep but with the longer lower half is promising but will need Idealscope to check it out. Can you see it in person?

Hi Jolar

If this is for sale in a Tiffany store, try to compare it to some others to see what you think.

Yes, I have the opportunity to take a look at it.
I already told the sales pro I was considering purchasing an IdealScope to view my selections.
I''ve never used one but are they fairly easy to use?
How obvious does the Scope make it?
Would I even know what the hell I''m looking at?

LOL! Honestly, IS are easy to use and to interpret when you get the image. Here are some links which will explain things for you.

Idealscope Tutorial and another Idealscope tutorial.

I got the links thank you!!
Also I believe the stone is already set but I could be wrong.
I know Tiffany only sells diamonds they have in inventory but do they set all of them?? Idk.
Anyhow, if it is set can I still use the IdealScope over top of it?

You can use Idealscope on set diamonds, obviously the prongs will be there but you can still get a good idea whether there is leakage or not. I * think* most Tiffany diamonds are already set, I could be wrong, but like I say it won''t make much difference when using Idealscope, I use mine that way often.

Awesome!
Thanks for the help.

I found the HCA chart through the IdealScope link.
Seems like a nice helpful tool.
I got a 3.4 on this diamond.
Not so good maybe.. I think I''ll pass on this one.
Would you?

I don''t know about the price in comparing with other Tiff stones, but I think it is kind expensive for that stone

I just bought an F vvs2 1.15 with faint flour for 9150 from one of the PS vendor here

I would probably look for a diamond with a slightly less steep pavilion angle, around 40.7 - 41 degrees.

Tiffany usually cuts their RB pavilion angle in that range and with a higher lower half than what is normally out there. The larger lower half can compensate for the larger pavilion angle and since you will have an IS, use that to judge for yourself if there is leakage.

I know, but I have seen ones out there with less steep pavilions in the past though from Tiffany, could be those are available.

Well, he can see them personally with his IS, compare it with other stones maybe better proportion, so no reason to just throw out the baby with the bath water right?

Not the case SC, the OP asked what *I* would do and that was my response. The diamond in question might be fine, just that if it were me, I would see what else they have before pulling the trigger on that one and definitely compare it to diamonds of possibly better proportions as you mentioned.

ya, I know. I am also saying that is what I would too. No? :p

Gotcha!

Thanks, this helps me get a feel for things.
And yes, I want to know what YOU guys would do and I got the answer I needed.
I told the sales pro I''m going to use the HCA and an Idealscope.
He is going to send me a few more selections on Saturday.
I''ll post em up for the ultimate test.
YOU guys!!!

Here are two more stones I was emailed earlier today from Tiffany.
The second one looks juicy.
My question is do you think so?
And should I hold out for Excellent in the Spread department?
How important is Spread?

The first stone scores
2.3 HCA
Light Return-VG
Fire-VG
Scintillation-VG
Spread-Excellent

The second stone scores
1.3 HCA
Light Return-Excellent
Fire-Excellent
Scintillation-Excellent
Spread-VG

Don't worry about the HCA spread, only diamonds with depths of 60.3% or less get Ex, most top cut stones get VG - its fine, no need to hold out for Ex.

Both diamonds look good but I lean toward the second.

Both looks promising.

Ex spread is difficult to get, usually only depth of 60.3% and below will get the score, so not worry. VG usually is sufficient.
