Hi everyone! :wavey:

I was merely looking at other people's engagement ring on purseforum about a year ago to find my dream e-ring, and it somehow led me to the pricescope forum! Ever since then I've been looking through old and new threads and learnt heaps of stuff about diamonds which I never knew and wouldn't have learnt from anywhere else, all thanks to everyone who shared their knowledge and experience here (thank you all :appl:) And through pricescope I found GOG and have fallen in love with their AVR ever since!!!

I've been eyeing this 1.53 H VS2 AVR for a few months and last week, my FI gave me the yes to approach GOG about the rock. As we are from Australia and have no plans to travel to NY just to look at the stone, I need advice from all you diamond guru!! I requested a diamond video from GOG and I am very happy with the size, colour and cut of this AVR:

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/12310
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGAHOY_qJZI&feature=youtu.be

However, when my FI saw the video, he wasn't very happy about the flaw under the table. It is a very small, tiny cloud/crystal, and it's hardly noticeable under most lighting environment that was shown in video except when it is under the sun light/natural environment. I later on found other videos which includes the 1.53 as well and I think it is not very noticeable but I am not too sure.

What do you guys think?? Do you think it will be very noticeable as the dot is right under the table??? Will other people be able to see the flaw when I am wearing it? I tried to tell my FI that the diamond in the videos are super magnified, and in real life once it's on my finger people wouldn't be able to see it unless they put it right under their noise and look at it. But he isn't too convinced and I am not too sure as well, as before I found Pricescope my aim was to get a VVS1 or IF..... I personally really don't think it will be an issue, but I worry that if it is very noticeable I may find it irritating and I don't want to regret a purchase that costs this much money... :?

Here are the other videos that I found which included the 1.53 H VS2:

(My FI likes the 1.52 better as it reminds him of the orignal sunkist (???), but I really like the larger facet/table more.... >__<)

Apart from the flaw, are there any comments about this stone? E.g. light return.. leakage....etc etc.

Also for setting, I am thinking of getting Mark Morrell's Petite Torchiere to go with the AVR. Can someone confirm with me whether the prongs for this ring are huge (I read this somewhere on pricescope but it was a bit vague..)? And could I also request the prongs to be made into claw prongs through GOG?

Thanks everyone!!

Re: Advice on this AVR please~ (and MM Petite Torchiere too

Hi, :wavey: I am an Aussie too, before you get the complete ring make sure you ask the vendor to fill in the appropriate AUSTFA documents so that you get charged 10% not 15% and ask them if they can email a copy to you because customs have been playing funny people lately and pretending not to always find the forms even when they are strapped to the front of the box.

As to the two stones I seriously doubt you are going to notice anything in the stone even held up close these are being shown with a lense that magnifies everything. IF and VVS is overkill you are paying extra money for something you won't see and cut quality determines the fire and sparkle not clarity unless it is full of inclusions.

Have you asked GOG if the stone is 110% eyeclean? Tell them you are fussy and a P/S member and they will be honest with you.

As to the cut pattern it depends what your eye prefers, I can see two distinct cut patterns one that has a fat arrow pattern which is really cool so imagine a chunky cut OEC but with the arrows the other has a smaller table and what I call the distinct fat flower pattern in the centre. They will both be magnificent so it's just a matter of determining which one your eye prefers. Or again asking the people at GOG to call a winner for you instead, if they had to pick one of the two.

Have you seen Diamondseekers setting? This is one of the nicest plain solitaire style settings I think for AVRs but again it is personal choice. Val's rings (both no1 and no2) are pretty cool as well.

Re: Advice on this AVR please~ (and MM Petite Torchiere too

Hi arkieb1!

I did mentioned to GOG I would like to know if the stone is eye clean in different environment when requesting the comparison video, but I guess my email was too long and the question wasn't direct enough, they never said if the stone is eye clean. I have just emailed them to confirm if the stone is eye clean so hopefully they will reply before they close on Saturday US time! :Up_to_something:

Yes I've seen Diamondseeker's setting! Her ring was what made me want an AVR in the first place... LOL!! Val's rings are beautiful too but I just wanted a 6 prong solitaire like Diamondseeker's but a bit different. Previously I was considering Vatche's swan too but decided that I like MM's tapered shank more

Re: Advice on this AVR please~ (and MM Petite Torchiere too

The MM tapered shank is beautiful. It also provides a little gap when paired with a wedding ring that I think flatters both rings. I like the shape the MM prongs give to the diamond but it comes down to personal taste.
