Hi - I'm new here but I've been doing some reading on this site and am posting for the first time looking for some guidance/advice on two diamonds I saw earlier today, please.
1. 0.72 GIA SI1 3ex
Table 58
Depth 62.3
Crown angle 35.5
Pavilion angle 41.2
Faint fluorescence
Eye clean
HCA score 4.6

2. 0.74 GIA SI1 3ex
Table 58
Depth 60.7
Crown angle 33.5
Pavilion angle 40.8
No fluorescence
Eye clean
HCA score 1

So from what I've read, I discount the first stone immediately on HCA score alone as it's over 2.

The second one is outside of the ideal proportions crib sheet I've seen around here (for slightly too big table and slightly too shallow crown angle) but it still gets a good HCA score - can someone help me understand if that means I should consider purchasing it?

Also, I'm interested in Blue Nile signature ideal line - is that considered safe, even though they don't provide some of the images that other vendors can?

Appreciate any and all help. Thanks in advance.

Newtoallthis,

As a trade-member I cannot comment specifically on diamonds you have listed. But, as you have not gotten much response, I will suggest that you post both specs and images where possible (real, Ideal-Scope, ASET) as you will tend to get more responses on this forum when you include images. Your proportions "crib sheet" seems to be correct, and the HCA does say any diamond which scores <2 is worth further investigation.

Best Wishes

Thanks DiamondHawk for your reply.

I'm afraid I don't have any images of the diamonds I saw and I'm not sure if I can get them.

I suppose in a theoretical sense I'm wondering if a 33.5 crown angle is a red flag on a diamond with other proportions fitting into the ideal bracket. What negative impact could that half a degree have?
