Dear all,

Thank you all for your insights, which tremendously help people like me, who have a basic knowledge of diamonds, but do not know all the finesses as you do.

Anyway, I found on www.patini.com the following diamond.

Carat size: 1.32 carats
Form : round - brilliant
Qualité taille : Very good
Dimensions (mm) : diamètre :7.0 mm
Clarity: VVS2 (very very slight inclusion)
Colour : G(blanc extra)
Proportion : very good
Brilliance : Excellente
Polishing : good
Origin : Afrique du sud
Certificat : EGL

The diamond is offered for the (special offer) price of 5025 EUR.

Did anyone already hear (of have experiences with) of patini.com. Also, what do you think of the diamond price/ quality wise. And lastly, do you think the certificate will be EGL USA, Europe or Israel?

Thanks for your input. If this is positive, I will probably purchase the diamond.
Regards,
Peter

I wish there was more info on the cut (the diameter indicates about 62% depth, but the rest is a mistery)... but if you get to see it, why not.

No way to tell which EGL (the code on the cert would) but given the location of the shop, it has gretaer chances to be the one you mentioned.

The price is quite remarcable though - allot (about 30%) less than I would expect! Given this, I would like to know what motivates the discount? It could be a very weird cut or some special situation of the sale... I hope you already know.

That diameter is pretty small for a 1.32c stone...that is more like a 1.23c stone..so this stone will look that much smaller. That would indicate to me that the cut is not quite up to par. I am not sure what your budget is, are you looking for something that is cheaper and less well-cut or what are your priorities? Hard to advise without knowing what your important buttons are going to be.

However...bottom line is that for a 1.32 G VVS stone ...$6k US is very very cheap. Be cautious, you get what you pay for with diamonds...everyone has got to make a living. A 1.31 G VS1 stone, excellently cut is about $9k so the VVS may bump that up to around $11k...for an excellent cut. So your diamond is $5k less and the difference HAS to be somewhere. Since cut is the only spec not given more info about, it has to be there.
