hello- need some help on deciding if this price is good or not for an engagement ring:

.76 carat
Color: G
Clarity: VS2
Cut looks pretty good and the diamond looks sparkly

Depth 61.3
Table 61.0
Crown 13.5
Pavilion 44.5

price: $3400

EGL USA Certified and UGS certified and appraised at $6000 replacement value

(i've read some things about EGL, so not sure if the color/clarity might be inaccurate according to them?)

any advice would be appreciated if this seems like a good deal

thanks

You should run the specs in the "pricescope your diamond" box on the top of the page. That will give you an idea what the prices are running for your particular stone.

T-rock, welcome...

I'm sorry to tell you that the price sounds too high - do a price comparison, you'll find EGL graded 3/4 ct G VS2 for much less in the internet. You even can find diamonds with GIA reports for $500 less.

Regarding cut. I plugged the numbers into DiamCalc (see below). If pavilion and crown depth % are accurate (not rounded) it looks like the diamond can still look good despite the fact that it is not in official ideal range. (red color in ideal-scope model represents light reflected to observer)

thanks, there seems to be 2 columns:

$/Crt and Price... what is the $/crt column?

I agree the price is too high!!!! And you can find better diamonds, with better numbers, than this for less; just look.

Good Luck

Try to keep yout table between 54-57 and the depth from 60-62. The crown angle should be between 34-35, and the pavilion angle will need to complement the crown angle. If you can get those 4 numbers on a diamond, you go above under tools and put the numbers in the cut advisor and see how the stone fares. But I''d recommend looking at GIA and AGS certified stones.

The price seems really high even for a walk-in store? I see the prices are a lot lower online, but I''d rather buy from someone in person...

this is an EGL-USA certified, not the other EGls.. does that make a difference? the jeweller put it next to a GIA graded one that had a better clarity grade-VS1, but lesser color grade- i think it was a H or an I.. and the EGL one looked better to the eye, it had more sparkle and seemed to reflect light a lot better
