Advice On Pear Diamond

Hi

I recently bought a pear diamond online. I picked it up from the retailers store and examined the ring and stone in the store. At the time I didn't overly notice anything but I went home and took some pics and when zoomed in noticed that it looked like the stone had dark patches. Looking at the stone again it appears to have dark patches visible to the eye which I now can't help but notice. I've still got 20 days or so to take it back, but I'm not sure if I should keep it or swap it for another diamond.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I've attached the specs and a pic.

You must be talking about the bow-tie that runs through the stone. Did you see a picture of this stone before you bought it?
Did you notice it before? Anyway, if its something that bothers you know it will probably continue to bother you. I would return
it and look for another stone.

This stone is also shallow and has a large table.

Edit - here are 3 from JA where I didnt think the bow-ties were too bad.

I assume the fact that its shallow and has a large table are not good then?

I'll try looking at the links shortly, it wont display properly on my mobile.

Is the bowtie bad on this diamond then? I didn't notice it when I looked the first time round. It was only on taking some pics where I noticed it and then could see it. I just don't want to go taking it back spending more on paranoia and finding out that its not going to be any different...

Thanks

That stone looks like it has a "typical" bow tie...I've seen worst.

No, shallow depth plus big table usually aren't good but you are looking at it in person. How does it
Look under different lighting conditions? If its very sparkly in most conditions then it may not
Be a problem.

Edit...you can learn more about pears here...

It sparkles a lot in the light but the dark patches are quite noticeable in darker conditions. The missus probably wouldn't even notice but its the fact I know its there. I've attached another pic, ill probably compare it and swap it if I think its bad compared to others.

Thanks

Yep, its a bow-tie. You could present it to her and let her decide if it bothers her...or if it really bothers you, you can replace it
before giving it to her.

Nice pears are not easy to find. Most of them have bow-ties...you have to do a lot of searching to find nice ones with minimal
bow-ties.

Thank you for your advice, I don't mind some bow tie though does this diamond exhibit strong bow tie? It does disappear depending on the angle but as in the picture above if you catch it it really can be quite prominent.

I've requested to go back to the retailer and requested to see some more diamonds of similar specs as a comparison, though he did state -

"From my perspective bow tie is a natural consequence to pears marquise and oval and you can avoid this but to buy a lower quality cut as deeper diamonds tend to avoid bow tie"

Can anyone enlighten me on why a deeper cut would be a lower quality cut? Surely a better cut would minimise the bow tie effect?

Thanks in advance.

The bow tie doesn't look all that large to me, when compared to the overall size of the pear diamond. My concern is the large table might give the pear a different look - the glassy effect or table glare rather than tiny sized sparkles. Then again, if you like what you see, then you don't mind this flavour of cut. Most ovals, pears and marquises show bow ties; it is a matter of getting one that isn't obvious. In addition, how well cut (sparkly) it is is also to be considered. Pears or fancy cuts (non rounds) cannot be purchased by specs or numbers alone as it little very little about the cut quality. There are too many variables not mentioned on any lab reports which affect how sparkly it is.
