Hello Psers,

I have new addiction of older cuts and I just bought myself 1.65 ct Tranny ring two weeks ago as a daily ring for work and wear my main larger Ering on weekend/special occasion. I am obsess with the old cut and keep looking on DB, LT, ebay, vendor online, and it's like outer force that pull me to do that. Of course, searching and encountering great deals got me all suck in.

The ultimate ring that I want is OEC in high 2ct to 3ct ish. The 1ct is much easier and much cheaper to find and I keep getting so tempted. If I continue to buyer smaller item, it take longer to save for larger one. How do you veteran PSers deal with temptation or focus tools/tips?

Have a great day!

Hi MomInStyle :wavey:

Ohhhh, I have been so tempted lately to feed my jewelry itch! I can totally relate to what you are going through! I always ask myself if it if the piece/stone is timeless and classic, and will I wear it. I would rather have a few wonderful pieces/diamonds rather then amass a number of nice but somewhat ordinary/small items. That's just me . . . I know you will get some fantastic advice from the other members!

Contact Adam at OWD - then trade in everything I have to buy diamond ring of my dreams- temptation is then ended!! Ok seriously that is what I did so perhaps you shouldn't take advise from me. But at the same time I wanted to buy before diamonds prices went up again (ugh) or worst they started to tax online purchases (ehhhh gags!). So I try to tell myself there was a financial reason for me pushing up my old cut purchase early.

Since purchasing my cushion I really haven't had an urge to buy anything else, at least not like I did before. However, if you don't/can't/ have better self control then i would set asside a bling fund and put in money every XXXX. Out of that fund you can then watch what you are spending on and it may make you think twice about pulling funds out of there for something small.

And of course the other option is avoid the internet all together or block all the sites you mentioned. I have actually done before in attempts to focus on something else besides jewelry.

Buy an AVR at GOG - they have a full trade in policy. So you really aren't "out" any money, and you'll have a rock to look at until the funds grow larger. :naughty:

I struggle with this too. I am trying to save for a substantial eternity band which I hope to get next June. But I have spent smaller amounts on rings in the last year that I didn't really have to have. Selling those would be a nice start on my band fund but I keep finding excuses not to list them. They were a good deal, can't replace them at that price, etc.
I have to step away for a bit, like SB. Haven't blocked the sites yet, it is a good idea.

I really admire the women on here who go for their dream diamond, set it and enjoy it. Dreamer comes to mind, with her one ring to rule them all philosophy. There's also Yenny, Yssie, Haven. Members who went after their dream setting and love what they have and have kept the same ring for a while. I'm very fickle and change my mind at least once a month on whether I want to upgrade or just keep adding different bands. But if I ever hope to go for the big purchase I can't keep making small purchases.
Once I get the major eternity purchase out of the way I'll knock some fun stuff off my list, bracelets, diamond huggies, etc.

The man was a GENIUS.

Seriously, this works for me! I love vintage, so I totally don't believe in purpose-driven shopping: I know when I want a whatever (a diamond crescent brooch, a ruby line bracelet, what-have-you) it won't necessarily be around for a good price. So I have a tendency to, er, pounce on things ... and then make up for it by being more frugal in other areas.

On the one hand, I'm not eating out, taking taxis, getting beauty treatments, or buying a new swimsuit this month.

On the other hand, this has been a *good* month for bling, and I've knocked three items off of my All-Time Bling Bucket List.

Oh, and I'm also a new convert to the Church of Consolidating Your Stuff. I will be much happier with my delightful new things than I was with the stuff I never used (and I'll be happier yet once I figure out where to hawk weird, space-consuming stuff like a vintage VC&A parure case). Dreamer's philosophy is awesome, even when it needs to be adapted for us maximalists.

One Ring (per finger!) to rule them all!

Circe I'm in awe of your goodies and really tend more to the more is more philosophy, deep down. I can't make a decision to save my life and get bored with things really easily. I would like to think I have the willpower to have one or two amazing rings and love them forever but I know that won't happen. Unfortunately my bank account doesn't match my shopping list :$$):

So I'm trying to convince myself to not buy anything "small" until I can afford to buy something "big". Wish me luck as I've been discussing yet another "small" ring with with an ebay seller and might cave ;))

I may end up as bejeweled as you someday ( I hope!)

I decided long ago that I was going to buy a Leon Mege ring with a colored diamond... for my pinky finger. (Think about it. I really don't need a center stone larger than 20 points!) eta: Plus, nothing screams "rampant self-indulgence!" like a colored diamond pinky ring.

I have no idea how to not buy small things... I can't resist instant gratification and love switching out my rings. Something new to stare at every day!

Well, I love colored stones, and other than a recent purchase, have not made a purchase in awhile. I made a "bucket list" of gems I want, and so if something comes up and it's not on that list, well sorry. Or I need to kick something off that list to get it, and not willing to do that. I also made a minimum size requirement mentally by stone type, so I won't pick up small stones that I probabley wouldn't end up doing anything with.

So that's what I would do, as other have said, make a dedicated fund, such as by putting 100 a month into it, and only use that for jewelry purchases. So you know if you take it out for some smaller purchase you know you are getting farther away from goal item, and make a list of "bucket list" with minimum specs in order to purchase.

I totally get you! Sometimes when I browse DB or LT I see something and I'm like man why did I look! so stop looking!

Lol! Apparently jewelry itch symptom never really go away. Yeah. I often have to ask myself that if it's classic, staple piece, and will I wear it everyday, too.

SB, you are bad and such an enabler! I don't want to heart your feelings so I will take your advise and contact Adam. LOL! Yea.. I used to be really good with setting aside funds and stay focus on a few large and nice pieces per year. Starting over again, is no fun but rather threading.

Avoiding internet all together is impossible. I will now have any entertainment w/out PS and I will experience withdraw unless there is another group call PS anonymous.
