Hello all,
New member here, just joined today :) I am getting ready to get an engagement ring for my girlfriend and would like some help with finding the perfect diamond. She wants a princess cut and i want it to be nearly perfect.

I am trying to find something in this range:
carat: .8ish
color: d-f
cut: ideal
clarity: vvs1-vs2, i would like to stay in the vv range though, is there a big difference?
symmetry: excellent
polish: excellent
florescence: none

my budget is about 4k but obviously i would like to stay beneath that. She picked this setting http://www.adiamor.com/R-1030-R2205-4.htm is this a good online retailer?

i have been searching for a little while but im just uneasy about buying something online, especially because i don't know much about diamonds. but it is so much cheaper it just makes sense.

I found this diamond on JA, http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-VVS1-Ideal-Cut-Princess-Diamond-1251665.asp, its a G color but will that a be a big difference? Opinions on this stone?

Thanks for the help.

I am trying to find something in this range:
carat: .8ish
color: d-f G colour can still be very white if you are open to that grade
cut: ideal be wary of labels which are vendor applied such as Ideal Cut, the term Ideal Cut can be the most meaningful when related to AGS0 ideal cut grade, otherwise it isn't always any indication of cut quality.
clarity: vvs1-vs2, i would like to stay in the vv range though, is there a big difference? Both should be eyeclean so no visual difference. Some SI clarity grades can be eyeclean if you are open to that also but it is personal preference.
symmetry: excellent you can consider very good or even good for polish and symmetry in some cases unless you want a top cut diamond of AGS0 cut quality.
polish: excellent
florescence: none

my budget is about 4k but obviously i would like to stay beneath that. She picked this setting http://www.adiamor.com/R-1030-R2205-4.htm is this a good online retailer? I am not very familiar with this vendor.

i have been searching for a little while but im just uneasy about buying something online, especially because i don't know much about diamonds. but it is so much cheaper it just makes sense. No need to worry, if you want to buy online we will guide you through it. Some of us oldtimers have seen many happy customers of the trusted vendors for years and have bought online ourselves with great results.

The diamond you posted looks ok, G colour will still be very white, would you like some suggestions? Is your 4k budget just for the diamond or does it need to include the setting also? If it needs to cover the setting too, what metal and style are you looking for? This could eat a considerable portion of the budget so it would be good to know before we start searching for you.

Thanks, I wasn''t sure if it was my computer or not!

VVS clarity is not distinguishable to the naked eye from VS and even eye-clean SI clarities. With a trusted vendor, you could easily go to SI1 and get an eye-clean stone. Some people have a personal or cultural preference for higher clarity, but if you''re just looking for eye-clean, you can go lower. G color is also fine, even H-I depending on how color-sensitive you are. My princess is an I, and it''s very white.

The princess you picked out looks good from the photo! Ask JA for an Idealscope image and post it here so we can comment. We can give you other suggestions too.
