Ok...here we go. So this is my first post; I found this site earlier today and it''s been a great resource already. Here''s my story. I''ve begun the search for a ring worthy of my wonderful girlfriend and I''m seeking some advice. We have been looking at a few places just to get ideas and she seems to be drawn to an Emerald Cut solitaire (and I love it too). She is simple, classy, not "blingy", so think this would fit her well. The reality is that she has long, skinny fingers and the elongated look of the EC looks great on her hand. It looks like she is a size 5...and that is only because she has big knuckles compared to her finger size. The few that she has tried on her in the 1.5ct neighborhood.

I have done quite a bit of research and I understand that for an EC, it would require a high quality stone which I have no problem with. I will be purchasing the stone from a family friend who also happens to have a nice little shop in the Diamond District/NYC. They have taken care of my family''s "needs" for years and I look forward to working with them on this endeavor.

All that to get to this...with a budget of around $10k, I am looking for settings options. The one that we both adored was a simple 1.5ct EC set in a tapered platinum solitaire setting. I loved it, but then I got some ideas of maybe having some diamonds in the band. I don''t want anything big and gaudy but rather simple and elegant still as a solitaire. I''ve seen some Pave type bands which I like...again, she has skinny fingers and a thicker band just wouldn''t be her flow.

Any suggestions/pictures of some cool settings?

Thanks a ton.
