Been looking for a few months now and have slowly but surely been eliminating brands and working out how to spend my budget.

I found this stone which ticks most the boxes...

http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/1.828-i-vs1-round-diamond-ags-104074030064#!prettyPhoto[gallery2]/0/

I am colour blind so checking the stone using the pictures they provide is not possible, so hoping you rely on all your helpful people to advise me.

I decided to go with an I colour, rather than a H, so I get slightly closer to the big 2. (would have to go for 1.7 in H colour). I would have preferred VS2 but limited by stock so this is a VS1.

Any advice on setting, torn between a classic tiffany setting in Platinum or tiffany novo pave style setting (my reservation with the later is that the BG pave with have G coloured diamonds which I thought might make the I look yellow)...

any thoughts would be great and if anyone sees a better diamond for my money please tell!!!!

That looks like a gorgeous diamond! I recently purchased a Brian Gavin Signature diamond myself that was also an I VS1. I had a great experience working with BGD and my diamond is a real beauty. Coming from an F colored stone I was rather worried about buying an I sight unseen, but it looks white to me and I am happy with my decision and the money I saved by going down in color. Like you I was looking for a VS2, but ended up with the VS1 due to what was available at the time. It is a nice "mind clean" clarity though. As far as settings go I had my 2.5 carat put in the classic Tiffany half round in platinum. I was very impressed by the quality of the setting and the simple elegance of the design. I think the other setting with pave would be lovely too and I wouldn't worry too much about the color difference. You could ask the opinion of your sales associate too.

Here are a few more options -

Option 1
1.755ct, H, VS2
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3236285.htm

This stone meets your desire for a VS2 and also your desire for a higher color, while only sacrificing .1mm of diameter. Also - the above stone is almost $2k less expensive, giving you some extra budget for the setting.

Option 2
1.828ct, G, SI1
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3075971.htm

This stone is G-color, same size as the stone you had posted, at about the same price. It should be equally eye-clean, but is a 2-color grade improvement.

Option 3
For something completely different - August Vintage Round

1.64ct, H, VS2

Unique faceting pattern and optics.

Thanks both. Nice options on whiteflash... I was going with BG because I had read a lot about their settings (especially the tiffany ones) being some of the best. I've not heard anything negative about whiteflash settings... but buying from the UK (and no time to do a return) I thought BG would be a safer bet on the setting....

WF and BG have very similar settings when it comes to Tiffany styles. Which one were you thinking of?
