Im looking to put it in a Leon Mege Setting.. basically i want this ring... but in a smaller version (2-2.3ct)..

https://leonmege.com/index.php/portfolio/shop-now/asscher-french-cut-engagement-ring-detail

Please give me some expert advice on this particular Asher.. or if there are other i should consider.. budget is around $15k for stone (I think at a guess the setting from LM should be around 3-5k) so total about 20k

Thanks in advance!

Hi, have you gotten quotes for that setting? I don't mean to be rude but French Cuts cost top $$$$$ and I am pretty sure that setting is going to cost more from Leon than your estimated budget unless you get it made via someone like Erica or CVB designs.

Thanks for the reply... you know I havent got a quote yet but have emailed LM to see.. any idea what the cost of the setting will be?

The quote will be the only way really to know, but there's a French cut band on his site for 9k

Thats true.. but thats also an eternity band so I would assume more diamonds? Well ill wait to hear back on the quote for the setting.. but how about the stone above?

Any thoughts?

Depth should be deeper and table should be smaller. You want those numbers reversed. I am not recommending this diamond for you, just giving you a quick example of table/depth ratio. http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/asscher-cut/2.21-carat-h-color-vs2-clarity-sku-213885

Also you must have pics for fancy cuts and then get an ASET. Good Old Good is well known for picking out asschers. Go to their site and Jons youtube channel and watch the asscher videos. Great educational tool.

I would LOVE to watch it.. I've tried finding it on there site but havent been able... can you paste link?

Thanks!

Hi,

GOG's website link;

www.goodoldgold.com

If you go to Youtube and google Good Old Gold Asscher diamond they have a number of videos showing good and bad stones....

I'd guess that setting from Leon would be around $6500 USD or more give or take.

Thanks for the info guys! Yeh that sounds about right for the setting... I honestly dont mind paying a bit more for his work.. from what I've read its pretty amazing.. and has a finish similar or better than Cartier.

Thanks for the Vids I'll watch em!

That WF asscher is fantastic. I love it. I would definitely go for it. Great choice!

Thanks Gypsy.. what makes you say that? What specs ect give you that impression? Thanks

The picture and ASET.

Numbers tell you nothing about an asscher.

So I'm a wee bit confused. On this particular stone the table is 64% and the depth is 60%. I see that the ASET is good, a lot of red. But isn't a smaller table than depth always recommended in asschers? I'm sure the diamond will be bright, but will it have that falling into the steps effect?

I agree that the photo and ASET look good.. but from watching all these videos on GOG it shows that you cant just judge it by numbers.

I also think that im gonna want a better color.. watching videos.. hmmmm.. i def. want the eternal staircase in this.. one of the things i LOVE about this cut!

Yes, most asschers have smaller table to depth. But it's not required. And that stone will have the eternal staircase look, it's not dependent on the table and depth but of the faceting. And that stone has great faceting.

I can understand wanting higher color. I would too, honestly. But nice asschers in that size are hard to find.

AND that spread on that diamond is pretty fantastic.

Have you considered buying and seeing it in person first?

I purchased my asscher from WF and had it set in a custom setting by Leon Mege. I selected my stone from 3 potentials (Asets, Idealscopes, photos, specs, from WF) and then had it sent to me for inspection (I purchased it) before I sent it off to Leon. My setting was quite expensive and I needed to see the stone before I commissioned a custom piece. That's the only way I would do it no matter where I sourced the stone from.

My asscher is 1.29ct, H color. I see a tiny bit of color in it in low light situations. I don't mind it at all. The WF stone is larger and your color preference should be tested before you commit to an expensive setting, which will be over $5K for certain.

I have heard good things about Leon finding beautiful stones. He's been known to balk at setting stones from other vendors although he never asked where mine came from or whether it was new, inherited or a reset.

Thank you all so much for your info. I would LOVE to see it in person first but unfortunately i work on a cruiseship out of texas and our tunraround day is Sunday.. and nothing is open on sundays :( Id have to pay for it.. have it shipped and look at it.

I looked at a 5ct H/VS2 Forevermark stone today in Nassau in the bahamas and it blew me away.. was spectacular.. didnt see specs or anything but it really was incredible. My gf has a tiny hand (3.75 finger) so I know anything around 1.8-2.2 will look be enough on here.. and this is a 2.29ct so should really take her breath away! She is sensitive to color though.. so I'm a little bit weary on the I color of an Asher from everything I've read and watched.. most people say to stick to H and above.. but its just ONE color grade right?

The other thing I was thinking... if I custom that setting from Leon or Victor.. could I request H-I color side diamonds so there isnt a big difference with the main stone? No contrast?

I really like that stone but from everything I've read GOG seems to be somewhat of the authority on Ideal Ashers specifically... so have reached out to them. There website is pretty sparse of stones... but from there videos looks like they have a few in stock.

In terms of Leon not working with a WF stone.. his designs are advertised on there.. i assumed there was some kinda of partnership?

Also just going back to that WF Diamond... if you look in the Idealscope the north, west and south lines are darkened.... but the East side isnt there.. does that mean that its not symmetrical? Sorry not sure how to explain it properly.. but it doesnt look the same ALL the way round in the middle...

Did she specifically ask for an Asscher cut or have pics of them pinned somewhere? You state you saw a Forevermark stone, I assume it was a round brilliant cut? Asschers face up smaller than round brilliants because they are deeper cut stones. A SuperIdeal RB cut by many of the vendors recommended here will be as good as if not better (and a better price) than a Forevermark stone. The asscher you have picked has a great spread.

Yeh the Forevermark stone I saw was Asscher... H/VS2. We've looked at all kinds of shapes from rounds to radiant to princess to cushion.. but I personally prefer the 'Regal' look of an Asscher.. and that its so unique. Im gonna take her into a few stores and show her some Asschers and see how she feels about them.

I'm not looking to buy the 5ct Fmark Asscher... was just using it as an example of a stone i personally saw and loved!

Can i get advice on this diamond? It is a 2.010 H/VS1 from Victor Canera...

Depth Percent 72.6%
Table Percent 62.0%
Crown Angle
Pavilion Angle
Dimensions (LxWxD) 6.96x6.91x5.02
Fluorescence None
Culet None
Girdles Thin, Medium

These are specs... it is priced slightly higher than the WF stone.. but is an H/VS1 instead of I/VS2... which does appeal due to the GF being color sensitive. How does the patterning on it look?

Thanks!

To give you an idea. This is my 2.30ct I colored Octavia on my 4.75 size pinky.

Wow thanks for that pic.. thats looks amazing.. and I looks fine in that photo.. although that is an Octavia right? Which with the more facets can tend to look whiter i guess? Love the ALS watch in your signature too ;)

Im starting to think the I/VS2 WF Stone would look fine... I've emailed Bob at WF to see if he could take a video of it and see what it looks like in varying lighting conditions!

Exciting!

Not that size is everything, but the WF diamond is going to look significantly larger (like a carat larger). The dimensions are 7.87x7.63 versus 6.96x6.91. All things being equal (ie similar performance), I would prefer the I if given the choice. I am normally very color sensitive, but I would be very surprised if you could notice that much of a color difference, but I am sure you would notice the size difference. Just my 2 cents.

Dancing Fire.. can you EVER see any warmth in it? in any type of lighting?

Yes, an Octavia with 57 facets, me think?.. Here is a side view of the I colored stone. I love my RG ALS watch... ;))

Oh I thought I read somewhere it had more facets than a standard Asscher.. no worries. hmmm i do like that stone from WF but after seeing all of Rhino's videos I feel it'd be better to have a number of Asschers to choose from in a videos to compare... you cant exactly compared 1 diamond to itself right? you have no way of knowing fire/scintillation cause theres nothing to compare to?

Maybe ill see what GOG can find me...
