Hi everyone,

This is my first post on this forum and I need some advice on a very important investment

I''m looking for a round diamond between 2.5 and 3 carats and maximum budget is 16 500 $.
From what I''ve seen so far what I can expect is a I-J color and SI2 stone wich is ok for me, as long as it is eye-clean. I''ve been told that with an excellent, ideal cut the diamond will look quite fine.

I''ve looked on bluenile and solomon brothers, are these two good websites? Are they among the cheapest? Do you think that this diamond will look nice to a novice eye (that can still compare with others)? Do you have any other advice ?

Thank you very much!!!

Hi cicero,

Is your budget just for the diamond or does it need to include the setting? You might be able to find a nice 2 plus carat stone for the budget of your colour and clarity specs, 3 carat stones get more expensive and in SI clarity grades might not be eyeclean - although there are certainly SI diamonds of these sizes which are clean to the eye! Yes BN and SB's are good websites but really images such as Idealscope are needed and a vendor who has in house stones so they can advise on the eyeclean aspect is very useful. BN's diamonds in the main are not in house, only their Signature Ideals are.

Here are some other vendors you can consider;

www.niceice.com

www.jamesallen.com

www.highperformancediamonds.com

www.briangavindiamonds.com

www.goodoldgold.com

www.whiteflash.com

www.exceldiamonds.com

Where cut quality is concerned don't go by labels so much but evaluate each diamond carefully on its desirable visual and physical properties. You can use the search by cut feature above which will give you some basic info on the cut of the diamonds which come up.

I would ask Union Diamond for more info on this stone and if it is eyeclean, ask them to email you a copy of the grading report so you can post it here.

Thanks a lot for these answers.
The price is only for the diamond. I''m going to check these sites and post again to show you if I find something intersting with a real picture.
