Advice Needed!

Hi Everyone! I am looking for etiquette guidance! I just purchased a platinum diamond pendant (the setting lists the setting itself plus chain) I then selected a diamond for the pendant. Setting alone was over 1k and did not specify metal of the chain. You selected metal type (platinum in this case). Anyway I ordered then inquired on the metal type of the chain to find out they send a sterling silver chain. I was kind of annoyed but I really don’t know if this is to be expected? Would you expect a chain that was at least gold or would you only expect silver?

Over $1k for a platinum pendant setting and a SS chain? That seems fairly outrageous to me! Where do you live? U.S.?
Was it a fancy setting? Was it a known expensive place? Pics would help. I would return if returnable.

The most expensive plat setting at JA is less than $500. Cheapest is $315. Not including chains.
