I dont feel like #1 has much contrast. I see it blinking outside of the table but very little movement going on under the table. Looks like it just stays
bright and never flashes off. Defeats the whole purpose of a step cut to me.

For that reason, I like 2 and 3 better. Even though they do each have a leaky step, the other center steps look more lively to me than #1. I guess we
all have different requirements when it comes to emerald cuts. I do like the length of #1 though.

Could someone explain what crown/pavilion angles cause the GIA inscription to appear inside the diamond? Here is an emerald cut example: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/emerald-cut/0.70-carat-d-color-vvs1-clarity-sku-355578 and an asscher cut example: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/asscher-cut/1.02-carat-g-co5lor-vs1-clarity-sku-609261 .
The information on light return, "windowing" and ASET interpretation is invaluable. This is an extremely helpful thread.
I can't remember if it's on this thread or another thread (it was a discussion related to Royal Asscher facet counts within a thread about ECs generally, I think??) but Karl pointed out that the girdle is basically a set of facets, so there's no reason why light coming through them (and showing through / lighting up the laser inscription) can't be reflected around the internals of the stone!

It must just be down to facet angles - the fact an inscription can be seen in different locations within a stone as it moves shows how internal virtual facets work to bounce light around from facet to facet within the stone before it comes back out the crown of the stone :))

For me, I think it helps demonstrate the 'hall of mirrors' look that some stones have!

(I'm not sure why but your asscher link is going through to a MRB stone?? lol)

Not sure why it went to a RBC but the original asscher was sold. The insciription was visible in 3 different areas in the asscher. Thank you for the explanation. I'm following on the adiamor thread. It's very interesting.
