hello,

I was hoping you could help advise me- I am looking at 2 GIA certs which ahve almost identical specifications- please can you advise me which one is better in terms of depth/table and girdle?

Both are Princess cut, 1.5, E colour, VS2 clarity.

Diamond A: Depth 71.2%, Table 70%, measurements 6.38x6.31x4.49 and girdle is med-slightly thick.

Diamond A: Depth 75%, Table 78%, measurements 6.30x6.27x4.70 and girdle is thin to very thick.

Comments on both are additional clouds are not shown- what does this mean?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Serenac

Although you can't tell the whole story by numbers, the second diamond has a very large table, so I would be most interested in the first one. Do you have any photos of the diamonds or an ASET image, or have you seen these diamonds in person?

The remark " additional clouds not shown" in the comments section of the report is not an issue, the time to be concerned is if it says in SI clarity grades " clarity grade is based on clouds/ additional clouds not shown" or clouds are drawn on the clarity plot in SI clarity grades.

If you are shopping online, if you like you could give us your budget for the diamond and your requirements, and we might be able to make some suggestions for you?

Thanks for your prompt response- I''ve seen the second one (which looked v good and sparkly to my untrained eye!) but not the first- will do so this week though- they are from hatton garden- I wasn''t sure about which e-tailers to use for shopping online, but if you know of any good ones which fit the specs that would be great!

Budget is about £7k for the stone, no setting.

Any other advice on this appreciated!

thanks

and they are both GIA certified.

Serenac, do you prefer to buy from the UK or would you consider purchasing online from the US?

If you want to purchase here I would urge you to contact Dr Indira Marchant at www.bestdiamonds.co.uk Indira sells Infinity Princess which are of top cut quality, she is located in the Royal Exchange.

thanks both will try those, but what should I be looking for in terms of tabel/depth etc- for example do the 2 diamonds I had mentioned look good from the specs for around £7k or should I look for some different specs to this?

Can''t really tell unless you have an ASET image. There is many ways to cut a princess and often quite badly, so there is no set of numbers that will guarantee a good performing cut. You can try and get a AGSL cut graded princess, AGS being the only lab that grades the cut of a princess, that will be more consistent in performance.

There are various proportion configurations which can result in a good looking Princess so working with someone such as Indira who can show you the diamonds or provide detailed images is essential.
