Hello All,

So i need some advice. I went to a few jewelery shops today, and tried on a few pairs of studs.

First a comparison between 1, a .9 and a .8 All excellent cut, GIA GH ,vs1 The .8 am d.9 i cant see hardly, but there is a jump for the 1. The colours look a bit funny, but they looked rather white in real life.

Here is a photo of the .8 vs the 1

THEN i tried on a pair of Cushion studs. I like squarer cushions than these, but they were very pretty, and the same price as the .8 rounds, even thought they are over a carat each. I then had the idea of making them mini harry winston micropave style. (like the ring attached).

My jeweller said it to hard to find cushions so well matched. I did want rounds (and still do) but think it would be lovely to have little halo jackets for them. That said I would prefer squarer cushions. I am also worried they will twist and not sit straight, and as they are rectangluar, you will notice that.

The price of the 1ct cusions (E,s1- completely eye and pretty much loupe clean), and the .8 (F vs1) was the same. Do you think I should wait for squarer cushions? Or look for bigger better rounds, (he had no .85 or .9's) Or choose the plain round? or have HW style halo jackets for the cushions?!

AGH! Decisions!!

Thank you!!

Sushi!

You are fortunate to have small earlobes because the diamonds look huge on you! I wouldn't personally do cushions on the ears because it would drive me nuts trying to keep them even. And I also wouldn't do F VS1 for earrings. You can certainly go to G-H-I in ideal cuts and VS2 and still have them face up white. I personally think the .80's look great!

I you do pave halo settings, then you are going to have a much more dressy pair of earrings that won't be as suitable for everyday wear. The great thing about rounds is that you can get separate halo jackets for when you want the halo.

Hi Diamond seeker,

Thanks for the input. Yes I do have tiny ears (and a very weird shape too hahah) Im undecided, but I agree with you about the cushions not being straight. The problem is they looked so much bigger than the .8's and im a sucker for that. I also always always loved the HW micropave, but it prob wont work as two earrings. I think if i could just get a bit bigger than teh 8, i would be happier!

With regards to the halo, i was going to do jackets, custom made. I suppose I can still do that for rounds...

Im going to seek out some lower colours to see if i can go bigger that the .80. Im worried to go online, as I really need to see them, plus living in Hong Kong, the price is about the same as online, if not cheaper, and there are thousands of jewellers at the end of my street, so I can have a good look. Plus the international jewellery show is here this week, so im going to the convention on thursday.

On that question, Im only going to look at GIA, but i have to pretend that I know what im talking about! Oh dear... I wish I could take one of you with me! hahah

I think the .8 rounds are much more flattering on you and look big but also suit your ears. Honestly the other pairs look too big/ not proportional to me. I love big diamonds but I think in studs, for me personally, there is a maximum size that still looks proportional. Even at that size I'm not sure jackets might look a little too big. Maybe you should try them in with jackets to see?

Agree about the cushsions moving being an issue. That would drive me nuts!

Winternight - you know after you said that, i had a look at the photos again, maybe you are right. Its a strange concept deciding to have a smaller diamond. I think to be honest if a 1ct+ was in my price bracket I probably wouldnt think twice, but now ive tried to .8 then they do look nice. Its an arrogance thing i think, but i dont want people saying or seeing they are less than 1.

But after looking more, I tend to agree with you both and think that the cushions are a no no. That said i think im going to look more for rounds.

Phoenix - How fabulous? Have you been before to the show? I went to both last year, they are insane! Im also starting a small jewellery business, ive designed a few pieces, and i need to do some research. I live here in HK, so im in the right place for it all. Im definitely going on Thursday, and im going with my friend on Sunday, BUT i might go on Monday too! If so, ill let you know :) What are you looking to buy? (BTW there are a few shops that sell 2nd hand hermes bags here....)

you can definitely get halo jackets made for studs but you might need to go smaller, because a halo on a 0.8 would be very large on your ears!

Come on Monday!! I am flying up on Sunday from Singapore, so can only be at the show on Monday. I'd love to meet up with you. I' m not looking for anything specific. Just looking around....

Yes, Milan Station is one of them right? But prices are INSANE!! I am glad the Luxury Mart guy cancelled. I've just put down a deposit for a brand new Celeste Kelly, Stamp 0 but never used. I'm going to ask my French connections to buy me some new ones in the future!! :twirl: These so-called secondhand pieces are insanely priced! :rodent:

Would you be able to contact me via DB (see my ad in the Preloved forum)?
