hi, I am in a tizzy of confusion right now about princess cuts. Not helping is that my previous post never made it through into the forum.

I want to get a pair of very high quality diamonds for studs. I'd like around 1 ctw. Preferably D, maybe E (based on experience of years ago of selecting round brilliants for studs with my wife in-person at White Flash).

I used to know something about brilliants but I am a newbie when it comes to performance for princess cuts.

How important is polish and symmetry (and length/width ratio) ?

I am being presented with some stones with tables up to 76% is this "too much"? I saw a webpage that said 62-70 % for excellent, and lower %'s for lesser stones.

I am hot to trot here but I don't want to misstep.

Can someone advise on good performing princess cut?

also, is 1 ctw too much for "daily wear"?

Brian Gavin Diamonds offers a pair search option.

It might be worth reaching out to Whiteflash to see if they can match up a pair for you. I think their basic matched search is only for round stones. It will be tough to do from two vendors, where the stones can't be compared side-by-side, so I would suggest working with a single vendor for both stones. If you've had a positive experience with Whiteflash, they would be a good choice for this type of project.

BGD didn't have any pairs of princess cuts in the size you're looking for, based on my quick search, but I did find a pair of killer cushions, both D-color, if that works for you!

more to the point, I am wanting to stick with Brian Gavin at his new company but the selection seems limited. Also, it "seems" that what is available seems to be cheaper than what's available at WhiteFlash and other stores, and one of my naive criteria is that money talks. I'm depending upon BGD to offer only the very best suitable diamonds and would like to stick with them. Am I shooting myself in the hoof?

Thanks Rocky. Those are awesome cushions. Unfortunately, even one of those is more than my budget for the pair of earrings. (I'm looking for about 1.0 carat total, 0.50 ct each).

I have found (and with help from BGD) at least two pairs of suitable diamonds. A pair of "E" and a pair of "D". I like the "E" pair better. Maybe my wife would go for the "E". She saw pairs of E, F, and G as loose stones with Brian some years ago at WF but preferred a "D" pair that Brian found on hand (and that is what we got). But her solitaire ring from Tiffany is "E".

I guess I am just concerned about the proportions of those two pairs from BGD right now.
