Thought I''d share these words of wisdom that the guests at my bridal shower gave me last weekend:

1. Laugh together as much as you can
2. Don''t get mad at the little things
3. It''s okay if the silverware doesn''t match!
4. Don''t take the simple things for granted
5. After the kids come, always take time for each other
6. Patience
7. Never start a habit you will need to break
8. Always keep the lines of communication open
9. Never say something he did is okay or great if it''s not; it sets a lower standard than you deserve
10. Do your part but don''t take any guff
11. Don''t cook too much because they expect it all the time then; take out is fine!
12. Keep your mouth zipped and you will be happy
13. Remember these magic words: "please", "thank you", and "i love you"
14. Be responsible for your own happiness
15. Fight a little, make up a lot

We have been married 43 years today!!!!! I have to agree with most of the advice given, but especially #5. In my opinion, after 2 kids 14 months apart, this is the best piece of advice. We were lucky enough to have two Grandmas who were willing to babysit when had just "had enough". Every three months we took off for an overnight alone and it was magic!

Very limited budget, but it was freedom!!!

Now, we look back on those "dates" and believe it was one of many that kept us happy and together!!

Aww, I love that advice! Even though some of the items are antethetical to others, I think they all have their place.

I agree...I have been married for 25 years and if you fail to really listen to each other, you will not be able to really communicate as you should. #9 is especially important...In the first little while when you are married, you don''t want to rock the boat by commenting on something that didn''t sit well with you so say so and why. If you convey your feelings/views in a way that leaves room for talking, it keeps the lines of communication open...I could add a #16...When you see each other at the end of the day, allow the sight of each other to bring a smile to your face and take your breathe away! Remember why you married the other person to begin with...
